Old Saybrook Sweeps CVITC Crowns...
(Feb 11, 2003) At the CVITC Indoor Track and Field Championships at New Haven Track & Field Center on 2-11-03, Old Saybrook High School won both the Girls and Boys team championships.

Danbury Sweeps FCIAC Crowns...
(Feb 9, 2003) At the FCIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Staples HS on 2-8-03, Danbury High School won both the Girls and Boys team championships.

Owen 4th at Millrose Girls HS Mile...
(Feb 7, 2003) After all these years of watching track and field, it was great to finally see some of the events at the Millrose Games in a live telecast. It was a special treat to watch Meghan Owen run in  Event 21 - the Girl's High School Mile. The race started with the ten elite milers running as one group for the first half with Meghan jockeying from fourth through eighth place. With less than a half mile to go, early leader Nicole Blood along with Ari Lambie and Kathleen Trotter separated themselves from Meghan and the others. Lambie took the lead briefly, but with less than two laps to go, Blood took the lead and never looked back to win in 4:52.00. Lambie followed in 4:53.14 with Trotter right behind in 4:53.17. Meghan led the second pack to the finish line to take fourth in 5:00.01.

Bristol Central Girls and Manchester Boys Win CCC Conference Championships...
(Feb 1, 2003) At the CCC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Glastonbury High School, Bristol Central Girls and Manchester Boys won the team championships. Bristol Central was led by wins in the Sprint Medley and 4x400 relays, Jacqualine Croce 1st places in the long and high jumps and two 2nd places by Jillian Sullivan in the 1000m and 3200m. The other double event winner was Livy Lewis of Conard in the 1000m and 1600m.
The Manchester Boys were led by victories in the 4x800m, Sprint Medley, 4x400m, 1600m (Rob Pacheo), and Shot Put (John Myles). Double-event leaders included Ken Walker of Bloomfield (55m, 300m) and Ahmed Haji of Conard (1000m, 3200m).

CCC Boys Qualifier Meet Results....
(Jan 28, 2003) The CCC Boys Qualifier Meet results have been posted from their meet held at Glastonbury HS on 1-27-03. The CCC Conference held their Girls Qualifier at Glastonbury HS on 1-23-03. The CCC Championship for Boys and Girls is scheduled for Saturday, 2/1/2003 at Glastonbury HS.

SCC Coaches Meet Results....
(Jan 27, 2003) State athletes finally got their chance to compete at the rescheduled Southern Connecticut Conference Coaches Meet on Saturday, 1-25-03. The Danbury Boys and Hillhouse Girls teams captured the team titles. Jerome Harris was awarded the Boys Best in Track for his first place performances in the 55m Hurdles (7.53) and 300m (37.07). Joe Sikorsky of Notre Dame was awarded Boys Best in Field for his 13' effort in the Pole Vault.

HK WinterFest, New Balance and more....
(Jan 26, 2003) The past three days have been busy for Connecticut athletes, from New York to New Haven to Higganum. The most noteworthy performance come from the New Balance Meet where Gavin Coombs of Griswold was a half-step away from winning the Boys High School Invitational 1-Mile running 4:15.91 to finish behind Brian Dalpiaz (Sayville) who set a meet record in 4:15.73. Teammate Reynolds Chapman finished 5th in 4:18.28. Ahmed Haji of Conard finished 8th in 4:22.28.
In the Girls High School Invitational 1-Mile, Abbey Sadowski of Griswold finished 3rd (5:05.34) behind Nicole Blood (Saratoga Springs) who ran a 4:54.78 (meet record) and Catha Mullen (Bronxville) (5:03.52). The Ridgefield Girls 4x800 relay came in 3rd with a time of 9:39.18 which broke the indoor school record and qualified them for nationals. The relay was Nicole Breves, Lizzie Wilson, Rebecca Chain, and Caitlin Helgesen.

In New Haven, Yale's Coxe Cage was the venue for the the Hopkins Indoor T&F Invite on 1-24-03 where the Amity Girls team and Coginchaug Boys team took top team honors. At the HK WinterFest meet in Higganum on 1-25-03, the Middletown Girls team and the Old Saybrook Boys team scored team victories. The CCC Conference held their Girls Qualifier at Glastonbury HS on 1-23-03.

21st Yale Interscholastic Track Classic....
(Jan 19, 2003) With the CIAC State Class Meets less than a month away, Connecticut indoor track and field coaches now have a fairly good picture of what remains to be accomplished after all 55 events of the 21st Yale Interscholastic Track Classic had been concluded on Saturday. Many of the state's top individuals and relay teams rose to the challenge and earned medals at the Yale Classic.

Memorable 60th Hartford Public Indoor Invite ....
(Jan 11, 2003) A memorable day for competitors and fans alike as they witnessed many highly competitive events at the 60th Hartford Public Indoor Track and Field Invitational at Wesleyan University on Saturday 1/11/2003. The meet was started in record-breaking fashion as both 4x800m Relay teams; Manchester Boys team in 8:24.06 and the Ridgefield Girls team in 9:58.31. The other two meet records were set by Dominique Curtis of Hillhouse in the 400m dash with a time of :58.68 and Meghan Owen of Killingly in the 1-Mile run with a time of 5:03.91. For their excellent performances, Curtis was award Womens Meet MVP and Owen awarded Womens Meet Best in Track. The Womens Meet Best in Track was awarded to Lacey-Ann Parker of Ledyard for her win in the Shot Put with a throw of 39'1". Curtis also won the 300m dash with a near-record performance of 40.93.

In the Boys Meet, one of the most tightly contested races of the day was the Russell Scott 1-Mile where the top four runners battled through the entire race which wasn't decided until the last 100meters. Gavin Coombs of Griswold won with a time of 4:22.30, followed by McKenna of Xavier, Chapman of Griswold and Haji of Conard. A 13-foot vault earned Joe Sikorsky of Notre Dame first place and Mens Meet Best in Field. Kevin Cranford of Manchester was awarded Mens Meet MVP for his double victories, 400m dash in 52.90 and anchoring Manchester's winning 4x400 relay team in 3:38.19. Jerome Harris of Hamden won the 55m Hurdles in 7.69 and was third in the 300m dash and was awarded the Mens Meet Best in Track.

1st Hillhouse Track Invite Meet Results...
(Dec 23, 2002) The first Hillhouse High School Invitational was run on Saturday, December 21, 2002 at the newly constructed New Haven Track & Field Center in New Haven, CT.
Athletes from Connecticut, New York and Rhode Island competed in the day-long meet that saw meet and fieldhouse records set by the winners in each event. Athletes gained the opportunity to run, jump and throw in the facility where the CIAC State Class and Open meets will be held later in the season.
