Manhatten XC Invite
Update...
(Oct 16, 2006) Results
posted at
dyestat.com indicate that many athletes from Connecticut ran well at
the Manhattan XC Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in New York, NY on
Saturday. Top individuals leading the way included race winner Adam Vess
of Xavier who finished Varsity Race D in 12:47 for the 2.5mi course.
Xavier placed second to Pope John Paul School of NJ with a 74-98 score.
In the Boys Varsity Race E, Shenendehowa NY scored 65 points over
runner-up Danbury with 85 points as both Willie Ahearn (7th -12:42.7)
and Matt Terry (9th-12:47.3) ran under the 13 minute barrier. In the
Boys Varsity Race G, Andrew Judd of Conard also broke 13 minutes in
placing 5th with a time of 12:46.7 to lead Conard to a 7th place team
finish. In the Eastern States Championship Race, the fastest and most
competitive race of the day for girls, both Conard and Ridgefield
varsity teams ran with Heather Stephens finishing in 15:15.9 (30th) to
lead Ridgefield to a 27th place finish while Emma Perron of Conard
placed 43rd in 15:29.3 to lead Conard to a 25th place finish.
Weekend Competition
Continues Before Conference Championships...
(Oct 14, 2006) Although
there were many teams competing this weekend, most teams took the two
days off before their conference championships scheduled for next week.
At the Nonnewaug Invite on Friday at Nonnewaug High School, the
Thomaston Boys defeated runner-up New Milford by a 61-68 score in the
Varsity 5km race. Thomaston was led by race winner Richie Klauber who
toured the course in 16:28. Klauber was followed teammates Josh Olsen in
second place, Tim Olsen (15th), Scott Fayer (16th) and Eric Normandin
(27th). In the Girls Varsity Race, Portland placed four runners in the
ten spots and seven runners in the top 17 places to score 38 points to
easily outdistace runner-up Litchfield with 84 points. Race winner was
Christina Wells of Shepaug who finished in 19:18 for the 5km course.
Portland was led by Kelsey Rooth in 4th, Allie Cooper in 5th, Mead
Bransfeld in 8th, Alex Milone in 10th and Becca Ruitto in 14th.

At the Manhattan XC
Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park in New York, NY, several state
schools sent their teams to participate in the largest East Coast XC
meet that saw over 11,000 runners participate on Saturday. Both
Ridgefield and Conard entered Girls teams in the Eastern States
Championship race that drew many of the top teams in the country. On the
Boys side, state teams Danbury, Xavier, Conard and Greenwich entered
varsity and sub-varsity teams as well. Results are available later this

the results of the 2006 XC Coach's Week-10/9/06 Poll and all the teams
receiving votes have been listed. The top three teams receiving the most points are:

Top 3 Girls Teams: Lyman Memorial (129), Glastonbury(117),
and Simsbury (86).

Glastonbury Boys
and Lyman Memorial Girls Take Championship Team Titles at Wickham Invite...
(Oct 7, 2006) The
Glastonbury Boys team placed four runners in the top ten places to
dominate the Boys Varsity Championship Race at the Wickham Invite with a
total of 41 points; Norwich Free Academy was second with 89 points. Race
winner Don Cabral of Glastonbury used a race-ending surge at the top of
the Green Monster to pull away from runner-up Andrew Judd of Conard.
Cabral finished in 15:58 and was followed by teammates Robbie Dugger
(3rd), James Llamas (9th), Chris Klobedanz (10th) and Cody Otto (21st).
In the very competitive Girls Varsity Championship Race, Lyman Memorial
edged Glastonbury for the team title, 95 to 108 points. Lyman was led by
Dana Troy in fourth place followed by Kelly Sorrell (6), Katherine
Fitton (12), Samantha Troy (13) and Lauren Polana (60). The race was won
by Jamie Olson of Glastonbury with a fast 15:57 as she was pressed by
Emma Perron of Conard (2nd) and Kristin Mitchell of Glastonbury (3rd) for most of the
race.

Bristol Central
Girls and Hall Boys Run to Seeded Team Titles at Wickham Invite...
(Oct 7, 2006) The
Bristol Central Girls Team captured the team title in the Girls Varsity
Seeded Race at the Wickham Invite with a 186 to 203 point win over
runner-up Manchester. Alasia Griebel led her team with a fifth place
finish behind race winner Christina Wells of Shepaug (16:40). Also
scoring for Bristol Central were Jessica DiVenere (22), Kiara Bonilla
(35), Jenna Ziogas (57) and Nemythe Lease (67).
The William Hall-West Hartford Boys team were led by Everett Hackett
(5th) to the team victory over CCC rival Newington with a score 148 to
205 points in the Boys Varsity Seeded Race. Also contributing to Hall's
win were Nick Aguila (26), Chris Rosenberg (35), Nick Walsh (40) and
Harry Mullin (42). The individual race was a virtual tie as Zack Gordon
of Pittsfield leaned by runner-up Danny Pilz of Newington; both were
timed in 16:30.

Bolton Boys and
Lyme-Old Lyme Girls Secure Unseeded Team Titles at Wickham Invite...
(Oct 7, 2006) The
Bolton Boys team secured the team title in the Boys Varsity UnSeeded
Race at the Wickham Invite with a 138 to 200 point win over runner-up
Joel Barlow. Bolton was led by a seventh place finish by Gavin Harney
and he was followed by teammates Thomas Paquette (25), Jordan Richard
(27), Alex Cropley (38) and Kyle Borton (41). The race was won by Jeremy
Garavel of Joel Barlow in 17:13.
The Lyme-Old Lyme Girls team used a second place from Lilly Spratt and a
seventh place from Jenna Skaar to win the Girls Varsity UnSeeded Race
with 133 points to 206 points for runner-up Smithfield RI. Also scoring
for Lyme-Old Lyme were Laurel Camean (33), Hannah Littell (45) and Sally
Davidson (46). The race winner was Courtney Dinnan of Hamden.

Championship Races at the Wickham Invite held at Wickham Park in
Manchester CT on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006.

Mid-Season Test at Wickham Invite XC Meet...
(Oct 6, 2006) Over 120
teams have the opportunity to test themselves against each other at the
largest in-state meet this season at the Wickham Invitational, held at Wickham
Park in Manchester CT on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006 and starting at 9:30am
with a special 7th-8th grade race; followed by a full slate of Freshman,
Junior Varsity and Varsity races. The athletes also get the chance to
run on the redesigned 4000m and 5000m courses that incorporate the newly
added wood chip trail at mid course where previously the runners had to
negotiate through the upper-lever parking lot and the main road. Now the
runners are sent back past the finish line on the grass surface after
coming down the new woodchip trail.

for Bellringer Invitational and Stratton Brook Invitational...
(Oct 1, 2006) Bellringer
Invitational (9/29/2006): In the Boys Varsity Race, Chris Abbott of
East Hampton took first place to lead his team to the title as they won
over runner-up Coginchaug, 20 to 48 points. The Girls Varsity Race was
won by Isabel Hirsch of Coginchaug while East Hampton won the team title
with 37 points to 66 points for runner-up Bacon Academy.
Stratton Brook Invitational (9/30/2006): In a close Girls Varsity
Race, host Simsbury edged runner-up Fitch by a 52 to 69 score. Senior Alasia Griebel
of Bristol Central was the race winner with a time of 14:44 for the 4km
course. In the Boys Varsity Race, senior Luke Albertson of Norwich Free
Academy won the race in 16:58 over the 5km course to lead his team to a
21 to 85 point victory over Simsbury.

Conard Boys and
Girls, Glastonbury Girls and Portland Boys Grab 2006 Greater Hartford XC
Titles...
(Sep 30, 2006) At the 57th Greater Hartford Cross Country Meet
on Saturday, September 30,
2006 at the MDC Reservoir in West Hartford, the Conard-West Hartford
Boys and Girls teams took the Charter Race Team Titles. In the Open
Race, the Glastonbury Girls team were the top team while the Portland
won the Boys team title.
The Conard Girls team won
their seventh Charter title and their first in the past ten years to
defeat runner-up NW Catholic, 37 to 62. Conard placed their five runners
in the top 17 places, with a 1-2 finish from Emma Perron and Caitlin
Cannon with Liz Knapp (6th), Molly Fresher (11th) and Sara Kitchen
(17th). It was the third year in a row that Perron has won the race as
she ran 19:05 for the 5k course.
The Conard Boys team won
their twelfth Charter race and fourth in a row as they defeated
runner-up William Hall, 34 to 44 points. First across the line was Danny
Pilz of Newington in 16:06.6 followed by Andrew Judd of Conard. Conard
then placed their next four runners in the top fourteen spots with
Jeremy Goldenberg (4th), Will Sennett (6th), Conor Wilson (8th) and Ben
Kemper (14th).
The Glastonbury Girls team
made the Open Race debut successful as they took the team title with a
60-85 victory over runner-up Cheshire. Jamie Olson led Glastonbury with
a course record run of 18:35 for the 5km course. Jessica Keener of Mercy
held the former course record of 18:52. Olson was followed by teammates
Kristin Mitchell (2nd), Christine Vogel (8), Emily Harris (16) and
Siobhan Wilcox (33).
The Portland Boys team
also made their first Greater Hartford appearance a winning one as they
scored 79 points to 97 for Ledyard. The race was won by Charles Walden
of Hopkins in 16:42. Portland was paced to the win with a 5-6 finish by
John Stroud and Sam Silliman while Tom Carroll was 15th, Kevin Ladny
23rd and Keenan Kelly (30th).

Field Set for 2006 Greater Hartford XC Meet...
(Sep 26, 2006) The field is
set for the 57th Greater Hartford Cross Country Meet scheduled for Saturday, September 30,
2006 at 10:00am at the MDC Reservoir in West Hartford. A list teams whose team roster entries have been received
are available on the website.
Each Varsity runner will be issued a competitor number so that complete
Varsity race results can be provided after the meet. On the day of the
race, coaches will receive a race packet with competitor's number and
list of competitors, please don't substitute and use another's number or
else the results will be incorrect. It is coach's responsibility to
print a course map, extra copies will not be available on race day.
REMINDERS:
1. REQUIRED FOR COMPETITION: Your school system's Insurance Certificate
must be sent and received before race day to: Marcey Munoz, MDC - West
Hartford Reservoir Filter Plant, 1420 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, CT
06107 OR You can FAX the Insurance Certificate to the MDC at

Going to the Sun
Invite Team Titles Won by Thomaston Boys and Portland Girls...
(Sep 21, 2006) The
afternoon weather was perfect at the 19th Annual Going to the Sun
Invitational, a MySportsResults.com Featured Meet, at Coginchaug
Regional HS today as Thomaston edged runner-up Portland 67 to 59 in the
20 team Boys Varsity race while Portland dominated the Girls Varsity
race with a strong 55 to 102 victory over second place Middletown in the
17 team race. The Boys Varsity race was won by Scott Johnson of Lyme-Old
Lyme in 16:29 for the 5km course. Josh Olsen, Rich Klauber, and Tim
Olsen paced Thomaston to the team title by finishing in the top twelve
places (2, 4, 11). In the Girls Varsity Race, Kelly Flannigan of
Middletown led all finishers to the line in 15:28 over the 4km
course. Team Champion Portland placed 5 runners in the top 21 places
with Kelsey Rooth (3), Allie Cooper (5), Alexa Milone (13), Becca Ruitto
(16) and Meara Bransfield (21).

Director Bob Haddad has released the corrected results for the Girls
Varsity-2 race held on Saturday, September 16, 2006 at Windham High
School in Willimantic Connecticut. The original race scores were
incorrect due to a coach failing to submit a team score at the end of
the race.

season is a pre-season ranking where votes will be accepted starting on
Monday, Sep 4 and close at 6pm on Sunday, Sep. 10th with results posted

Intent to Enter form for all teams interested in competing at the 57th
Greater Hartford Cross Country Meet, on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at

the meet website. Coaches are strongly urged to complete the Intent to

Windham Invitational - Meet Director Bob Haddad has released all
the entry details for the 28th Windham Invitational Cross Country meet
scheduled for Saturday, September 16, 2006 at Windham High School in
Willimantic Connecticut. Please note that you should contact Bob Haddad
at the new Meet Cell Phone Number (860-208-3433) to let him know if your
team is going to participate in the meet.
19th
Annual Going to the Sun XC Invitational - Meet Director Marty
Roberts invites you to the 19th Annual Going to the Sun Invitational at Coginchaug Regional HS, to be held on Thursday, September 21, 2006. All
races will be run on a scenic, rolling, mostly grass course at CRHS and
the surrounding athletic fields. Awards will include “Going to the Sun”
long sleeve shirts to first place individuals, trophies to the top three
teams, and ribbons to the top 25 in each race. Last year 515 athletes
representing 24 small and medium-sized schools competed in the meet.
There is an online entry for Team Rosters that starts on Sept. 1, 2006.
Coaches are urged to view, print and mail the Meet Entry form with your
entry fee as soon as possible.
57th Greater Hartford
Cross Country Meet - Meet Director Lindy Remigino is hosting the
state's oldest cross country invitational, the 57th Greater Hartford
Cross Country Meet, on Saturday, September 30, 2006 at 10:00am at the MDC Reservoir in West Hartford.
Last year, the meet expanded the race events to include Freshman Girls
and Boys Races of 1.5 miles. The fan-friendly race courses of 1.5 and
3.1 miles are the same as last year. In order to provide complete
Varsity results, there is online entry for Team Rosters that starts on
Sept. 1, 2006.
2006 Wickham
Park Invitational - Meet Director Bill Barron welcomes state and
regional schools to the 2006 Wickham Park Invitational scheduled for
Saturday, October 7, 2006 at Wickham Park in Manchester CT. The meet
starts at 9:30am with a special 7th-8th grade race and is followed by a
full slate of Freshman, Junior Varsity and Varsity races. In order to
provide complete Varsity results, there is now an online entry for Team
Rosters that starts on Sept. 9, 2006. Coaches are urged to view, print
and mail the Intent to Enter form with your entry fee as soon as
possible.
2006 XC Season Starts
August 26th...
(August 22, 2006) Although
many of this season's harriers have been running all summer, the
official start to the CIAC
2006 Cross Country season is Saturday, August 26th, the 33rd year for girls and the
75th year for the boys.

4th Annual Nikki's Run Walk 'N'Roll...
(August 15, 2006) The
fourth Annual Nikki's Run Walk 'N' Roll will take place on
Saturday, September 10, 2006 at 10:00am at Manchester
Community College. This
is a noncompetitive fund raising effort to create awareness of childhood
cancer. September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Last
year over several hundred people, including several area teams, were running and
walking to support this event. The event has raised over $65,000 in
