Sorrel, Perron and Riley First Girls at 27th Windham Invitational XC Meet...
(Sep 18, 2005) In the first real test of the invitational season at the 27th Windham Invitational Cross Country meet, the winners of the Varsity 1,2, and 3 races picked up where they left off last season -- as top contenders in the lead packs of their respective races. Kelly Sorrell of Lyman Memorial set the pace in the cooler Girls Varsity One race. The 2004 Class SS Champion won handily in 14:32.92 for the 2.4 mile course. Sorrell outpaced teammate Dana Troy and Kelsey LeBuffe of Hall-West Hartford to lead her team to the top spot. By the time the Girls Varsity Two race started, the temperature and humidity had risen but Emma Perron of Conard-West Hartford and Amie Schumacher of Holy Cross took the field out quickly. By the time both runners crested the half-way hill, Perron's 20 yard lead was all she needed as she ran to finish in 14:45. Runner-up Kristin Mitchell of Glastonbury lead her team to a first place title while  Andrea Topalis of Simsbury finished third. In the Girls Varsity Three race, sophomore Caroline Riley of St Bernards outpaced runner-up Anna Shields of Lewis Mills and Sara Leslie of Portland to win in 15:49.02 and pace her team to victory. The Girls Freshman race was won by Andrea Szarkowicz of Watertown while the Girls Junior Varsity race was won by Maggie Glass of Simsbury.

Macklem, Ward and Hackett Top Boys at 27th Windham Invitational XC Meet...
(Sep 18, 2005) During the 27th Windham Invitational Cross Country meet at Windham High School in Willimantic Connecticut junior David Macklem of Tolland showed that he has the endurance to compliment his 1:56 800-meter speed as he won the Boys Varsity One race in 16:14.06. Macklem finished ahead of runner-up Alec Carlson of Ellington and Jeff Stenzel of Farmington. Carlson's finish helped lead Ellington to the team title over runner-up Hall of West Hartford. The Boys Varsity Two race was proceeding as scripted with both Tradelle Ward and Chris Croft of Griswold leading the pack until newcomers Don Cabral and Robbie Dugar of Glastonbury challenged them for the lead. But Ward held on for the victory in 15:42.27 over Croft and Cabral. Amity of Woodbridge packed five runners in the top thirteen places to secure the team victory. In the Boys Varsity Three race, senior Conor Hackett of Bolton finished strongly to win in 16:46.43 to outpace runner-up Rich Klauber of Thomaston and Michael Sullivan of Granby. Freshman Races Added to Greater Hartford Meet and Intent to Enter Form Available Online...
(Sep 4, 2005) ATTENTION COACHES: The Greater Hartford Cross Country Meet has added two freshman races to the meet line-up on October 1, 2005. Meet Director Lindy Remigino thanks coaches for all the positive comments about the new race course last year. There were also some some suggestions about how to improve the meet. Last year on the new 5km course, there was a very large Boys JV race with more than 300 runners that strained the quality of the race for participants as well as the race logistics. The Girls JV race was also a strain on the race logistics as the last finishers completed the 5km race in 35 minutes. In order to provide a higher quality race for each boy and girl in the meet the following changes have been made for the 56th Greater Hartford Cross Country Race:

  1. New Freshman Girls and Boys Races of 1.5 miles.
  2. The Girls and Boys JV Races are limited to sophomores, juniors and seniors.
  3. The distance for the Girls JV Race has been reduced from 5km to 1.5miles.
  4. Note the changes in the start times of each race.

Lindy Remigino thanks you for your understanding in helping to offer the athletes a great racing experience. Hope to see you on race day!
GHXC Intent to Enter Form Available Online....
The Intent to Enter Form is available online at the GHXC meet website at: Greater Hartford XC Meet or to the link at the right. Coaches should complete the form as soon as possible. Online Athlete Event Entry forms for Varsity athletes in the Charter and Open races will be available during the week of September 19, 2005.
