Weaver and Amity Regional Top Teams
at CIAC State Open Meet - McMillan and Koloseus Set Meet and State
Records...
(Feb 18, 2006) Based upon
the past experiences, the head coaches of the Weaver-Hartford Girls Team
and the Amity Regional Boys Team knew before the meet that the only
certainty in a State Open is that the heightened competition brings out
the best in the top athletes. The coaches, athletes and fans at the CIAC State State Open Meet held at the New
Haven Track and Field Center, Hillhouse High School, on Saturday, Feb
18, 2006 certainly saw some of the best performers in the state in
heated competition.
The Weaver Girls Team won a close victory
over perennial power Hillhouse of New Haven, 58 to 54 points in a fierce
struggle highlighted by several lead changes the entire meet.
Sashuana Stewart led Weaver with a first place in the 55m Hurdles as
well a leg on the 4x200m relay team; which won the event from an
unseeded heat. Valuable contributions were also made by Renee
Thompson (600m - 2nd, 300m- 4th) and Shaena Gray in the 600m
(3rd) as well as participating on the relay teams. Weaver finished
second in both the 1600m Sprint Medley Relay and the 4x400m relay. The
4x400m Relay was won by Hillhouse in a meet record time of
4:00.35 in a last step lunge at the finishline by Ann Marie Clarke.
Christine Jones finished the scoring for Weaver with a fourth
place in the Long Jump. Another relay meet record was set by
Glastonbury in the 4x800m Relay with a time of 9:22.28.
Tynisha McMillan of Stamford set a new State and Meet record in the
Shot Put with a throw of 46'-11.75". The previous meet record had been
set by Lacey-Ann Parker of Ledyard in 2003. McMillan bested her State
Record of 46'-8" set earlier this year. Double winner Stacey-Ann
Smith of Bloomfield dominated the 55m and 300m dashes while the
Ridgefield duo of Leah Rosenfeld and Heather Stephens won
the 1600m and 3200m runs respectively. Kerry Lyons of Wilton won
the 1000m run in a near record time of 2:56.69.
In the Boys State Open Championship, Amity Regional placed
in six events to outscore runner-up Glastonbury, 41 points to 29.
Amity was led by a win in the 1000m run by senior Corey Mosley as
well as his strong 800m anchor leg in the winning 1600m Sprint Medley
Relay. Also placing for Amity were Alex Greenhouse in the 55m
Hurdles (3rd) and Damian Silverstrim in the Shot Put (3rd). Amity
placed a close second to Windham in the 4x200m relay as well as a 6th
place in the 4x800m relay. Jay Koloseus of Guilford ran to a
quick lead in the 3200m run and then continued the torrid pace to
establish new State and Meet Records of 9:11.34. The former 3200m State
Record of 9:12.79 was held by Peter Rea of Farmington since 1987.
Koloseus lowered his meet record of 9:18.80 that he set last year. Other
meet records were established by Robbie Dugger of Glastonbury in
the 1600m (4:17.22) and Jordan Thull of East Lyme in the Pole
Vault (15'-3"). The former mark of 15'0" was held by Peter Fink of
Haddam Killingworth since 1998. Other winning field event
performances were seen in the Long Jump with a 23'1.75" leap by Tomme-Rene
Coleman of Hall-West Hartford and Brian
Wycinowksi of Cheshire in the Shot Put with a toss of 54'3".

CIAC Class L Meet Results - Staples
and Hillhouse Again at the Top...
(Feb 10, 2006) Both the
Staples Boys Team and the Hillhouse Girls Team have extended their
consecutive CIAC Class Meet win streak to eight years as they both
scored victories at the 2006 CIAC Class L Indoor Track and Field
Championships at the New Haven Track and Field Center on Thursday.
Staples out pointed runner-up Wethersfield by a score of 68 to 41 while

relay (3:29.27) that was only 15-hundredths from breaking the meet

Yale Classic - Friday Results and
Saturday On the Scene...
(Jan 21, 2006) The 24th
Yale Interscholastic Track Classic is a full two days of competition,
with mostly relay events on Friday and mainly individual events on
Saturday. The meet allows Connecticut competitors the opportunity to run
on one of the best banked 200m tracks in the Northeast against teams
from New England, New York and Pennsylvania. On Friday, Stacey-Ann Smith
of Bloomfield stepped up to the 300m and ran 39.17 for a meet record as
well as tie the existing State record set by Shayla Wallace of NW
Catholic in 1998. Smith followed that performance by also winning the
55m dash in Saturday's competition. The Weaver Girls' team captured two
relay titles with victories in the 4x200m and 4x400m relays. In the
Girls DMR Championship race, Conard was a second off the latest

as the nation's leading miler Rhodes-Devey used a 28-second last lap

the opportunity to compete at the New Haven Track and Field Center at
Hillhouse HS. On Saturday, a number of teams went to the Stanner
Games at The Armory in New York or to Mackal Fieldhouse at the
University of Rhode Island for the Rhody T&F Classic. All results

New Feature - CT Indoor Athletes of the Week...
(Jan 12, 2006) The
selection of the first Connecticut Indoor Track and Field competitors
for the FleetFeet Sports-Athletes of the Week was made
relatively easy since they are the only athletes to set new Indoor State
records this season. The special
distinction has been given in Track and Field events to Jordan Thull
of East Lyme (Boys Field), Corey Mosley of Amity (Boys
Track), Tynisha McMillian of Stamford (Girls Field) and
Stacey-Ann Smith of Bloomfield (Girls Track). Mosley is the latest
athlete to enter the Indoor State Record books when his 600m run of
1:21.20 at the Dartmouth Relays was verified as a record. The former
hand-time record of 1:21.1 by Osborne Shaw of Bridgeport Central was set
in 1993. Look for the new feature to be posted
on Fridays on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Sponsors Indoor Best
Performance Lists...
(Jan 11, 2006) Starting
this week, any
Connecticut high school indoor track and field athlete is invited to
easily submit their best performances from meets held in the 2005-2006
Indoor season for weekly posting on a CT Indoor T&F Best Performance
List sponsored by FleetFeet Sports of West Hartford CT. In
order for your performance to be considered for posting you must be
better or equal to the minimum standards (2006 CIAC Class-S Meet Entry
Standards or other marks for non-standard events) as posted on the
2005-2006
Weekly Indoor Best Performance List Entry Form (see links to the left side for both
the form to submit a performance and the page where all Best
Performances are listed.) The FleetFeet Sports Best Performance
List has already been started with some of the elite marks performed
this season. The list will be updated on a weekly basis or more frequent
if your entries are numerous. Thanks for helping to make this work by
submitting performances that meet the standards.
