New Feature - CT Indoor Athletes of the Week...
(Jan 12, 2006) The
selection of the first Connecticut Indoor Track and Field competitors
for the FleetFeet Sports-Athletes of the Week was made
relatively easy since they are the only athletes to set new Indoor State
records this season. The special
distinction has been given in Track and Field events to Jordan Thull
of East Lyme (Boys Field), Corey Mosley of Amity (Boys
Track), Tynisha McMillian of Stamford (Girls Field) and
Stacey-Ann Smith of Bloomfield (Girls Track). Mosley is the latest
athlete to enter the Indoor State Record books when his 600m run of
1:21.20 at the Dartmouth Relays was verified as a record. The former
hand-time record of 1:21.1 by Osborne Shaw of Bridgeport Central was set
in 1993. Look for the new feature to be posted
on Fridays on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

(Jan 11, 2006) Starting
this week, any
Connecticut high school indoor track and field athlete is invited to
easily submit their best performances from meets held in the 2005-2006
Indoor season for weekly posting on a CT Indoor T&F Best Performance
List sponsored by FleetFeet Sports of West Hartford CT. In
order for your performance to be considered for posting you must be
better or equal to the minimum standards (2006 CIAC Class-S Meet Entry
Standards or other marks for non-standard events) as posted on the
2005-2006
Weekly Indoor Best Performance List Entry Form (see links to the left side for both
the form to submit a performance and the page where all Best
Performances are listed.) The FleetFeet Sports Best Performance
List has already been started with some of the elite marks performed
this season. The list will be updated on a weekly basis or more frequent
if your entries are numerous. Thanks for helping to make this work by
submitting performances that meet the standards.
Shoreline Indoor Track Coaches
Invite Recap...
(Jan 10, 2006) Special
from Coach Dupuis-HK...
Last Saturday, the Second Annual Shoreline Indoor Track Coaches
Invitational provided some 38 Medium and Small teams and over 700
athletes the opportunity to compete at a quality facility (Hillhouse) in
a full slate of State events. A
number of quality performances were turned in by a variety of teams. In
the girls' meet, Lyman Memorial distance runners Kelly Sorrell
and Dana Troy converted their cross county successes to Indoor
with Sorrell winning the 3200 and Troy the 1000 as well as finishing
behind her teammate in the 3200. Two of the better performances of the
day came from the field with Hyde's Janique Clayton winning the
shot with a 36'1/2" put and HK's Meghan Scanlon winning the Long
jump with a 17'5" effort. Woodstock Academy had best day in the
relay events winning both the sprint medley and the 4x400 relays.
Ashley Peters also contributed in the 600 with a 1:45.32 victory.
The Boys' meet also saw some fine efforts. Jay Koloseus dominated
the 3200 with a 9:30.76 victory. Dave Bent also had a strong win
in the 1000 (2:38.79). East Hampton's Chris Gliha (hurdles) and
Dan Brimly of East Catholic (55 dash) also had excellent times.
Old Saybrook had the best day in the relays winning both the 4x800 and
the sprint medley. While team scores were not kept, New Canaan
demonstrated it may be a team to look for with Tim Murphy and Bobby
Noble both jumping 6'2" to finish 1-2 in the High jump, Joe
Vittoria and Ryan Bone going 1 and 3 in the shot put and Jordan
Lysenko winning the 1600m run along with several other high placed
finishers.

Record Throw by McMillian of
Stamford at Dartmouth Relays...
(Jan 9, 2006) Stamford
High School senior Tynisha McMillian smashed the four-year
old state record in the Girls' Shot Put as she heaved the shot put 46
feet and 8 inches at the 37th Dartmouth Relays held on Saturday, Jan. 7,
2005 at Hanover NH. The former record of 44'3" was held by Allison
Bradshaw of Pomperaug that was set at the Yale Interscholastic Meet on
January 19, 2002. McMillian is the defending 2005 State Open Indoor Shot
Put Champion where she threw 41'1.5". According to the New England
Interscholastic Championship records, the best performance by a New
England athlete is 53' 2.75", which was recorded by Laura Gerraughty of
Nashua NH in March 2001. Another notable performance at the Dartmouth
meet was run by Corey Mosely of Amity Regional in the 600m with a
time of 1:21.20, only one hundredth of a second slower than the state
record of 1:21.1 set by Osborne Shaw of Bristol Central in 1993.
Mosely's time is one of the top times in the nation as the indoor season
shifts into high gear over the next month. The final notable effort at
Dartmouth was by senior Amy Schumacher of Holy Cross in the
1-mile Championship race where she ran a 5:09.00 for a fourth place. Her
effort is the top performance by a state high school athlete this season
in the Girl's 1-mile run.

Thull and Perron Set Records -
Stewart and Jones lead Weaver while Siricca and Davis tops for
Wethersfield...
(Jan 7, 2006) Spectators
and athletes were treated to one state record, five meet record
performances and one record tied at the 63rd Hartford Public Indoor
Invitational held at Saturday at Wesleyan University in Middletown CT.
Additionally, the Weaver Girls team won their second consecutive
team title over runner-up East Lyme 76 to 38 points while
Wethersfield Boys team won their first ever team title since the
meet started in 1943 with a close 33 to 30 point win over runner-up
Weston.
Weaver was led by the Meet MVP Sashuana Stewart with wins in the
55m and 55m hurdles and a second place in the Long Jump. Long Jump
winner Nora Miller of Middletown tied her meet record of 18'-6"
to win while finishing second to Stewart in both the 55m events. Weaver
also had a strong performance from Christine Jones with second
places in the 300m and Triple Jump and a third place in the Long Jump.
Weaver's 4x400m relay team also took first place.
In winning their first Boys' team title, Wethersfield used a first from
Justin Siricca in the 300m and a leg on the third place 4x400m
relay as well as a third place from Pat Davis in the 3200m and a
leg on the fourth place 4x800m relay team. Persis Oware was third
in the 55m dash and Marsid Tushe was sixth in the 800m to
finish scoring for the Eagles.
Jordan Thull of East Lyme continued to push the state indoor pole
vault record higher as he cleared 15'6" to eclipse the old meet record
of 14'2.5" set by Peter Fink of Haddam Killingworth in 1998. For his
efforts, Thull was awarded Best in Field. The Best in Track for Women
was awarded to Emma Perron of Conard-West Hartford as she ran two
800m races in record time; the first was the final leg of the 4x800m
relay where the team of Becky Autenried, Caitlin Cannon, Molly
Fresher and Perron ran 9:51.57 to best the old record set of
9:58.21 by Ridgefield in 2003. Perron's second meet record came in the
800m Run where she ran 2:18.74 to lower the mark previously set by Katie
Worth of Conard in 1998. In the inaugural Triple Jump event, Meet MVP
and Boys winner Jemmel Powell of Hamden sprang to a record 44'7"
while Best in Field winner Amanda Gland of Nonnewaug bounded to

Thull and Smith Shine at Brown
Invite...
(Dec 31, 2005) As
Connecticut indoor track and field athletes prepare for the new year,
Jordan Thull of East Lyme and Stacey-Ann Smith of Bloomfield
seem to have a head start on their competition as evidenced by their
performances at the 24th Brown Interscholastic Relays on Thursday and
Friday at Brown University in Providence RI. Jordan Thull has
been on a serious streak of increasing heights in the Pole Vault as he
has set a new Brown Invite meet record as well as a new state record of
15 feet and 2 inches. The new height breaks a 30-year old state record
set by Ken Appel of Amity in 1975 of 15 feet and a half inch. Pending
verification of a previous elite performance, Thull could set the bar
higher to a possible record of 16 feet even. Other notable Connecticut
performances at the Brown Invite included a first place for Corey
Mosley of Amity Regional in the 800m with a time of 1:57.40 and a
second place in the 3000m by Adam Vess of Xavier in 9:04.41.
On the women's side of the ledger, Stacey-Ann Smith of Bloomfield
continues to lead all state sprinters at the top of the 55 meter dash
leader boards with a 7.15Q and 7.10 at the Brown Invite while having set
a new state record in the 55m dash of 7.04 seconds at the New Haven
Invite on Dec. 17, 2005. The former record of 7.08 was set in 1996 by
Shayla Wallace of Northwest Catholic. Other top performances included a
first place in the 55m Hurdles by Nora Miller of Middletown in
8.43 and the 4x200m Relay of Bloomfield who finished in second
place with a time of 1:46.20.

Letter to Coaches and Meet
Directors - Records are Challenges...
(Dec 30, 2005)
Dear Connecticut Coaches and Meet Directors,
Since 1988, I have been involved with helping publicize the record
performances of track and field and cross country, and recently, have
taken the large task of maintaining the state records for cross country
and track and field. I have not arrived at this point alone, there are
many persons in Connecticut who have paved the way and continue to
provide information on elite performances. The CIAC records are easier
to maintain since they set at single, official meets under the
stipulation of state and national rules. The larger task is maintaining
the State Records, which include considering performances in meets that
may occur outside the State Class or Open meets. When I accepted the
proposal to maintain the records, I considered the responsibility as one
that should not be taken lightly, for records are meant to be set and
broken, such are the challenges that spur our young athletes to better
themselves on the field. But the validity of all records past and those
yet to come are for naught if they are not achieved within the rules and
regulations of our sport.
In an attempt to bring a sense of order to the process of documenting
and verifying apparent record-setting performances, I ask coaches and
meet directors to use the existing
online form for submitting information that will assist me in
verifying the elite performance as a new record. A link to the Submit
Records form is also available on the
Records page. Coaches can also use the form to provide corrections
to existing records, such as the names of relay members on a team.
So that we are fair and honest with our athletes and fans, I also ask
coaches and meet directors to report apparent record performances to the
media with the preface of something similar to "an apparent record
performance that requires verification was set ....". It is up to
coaches and meet directors to make sure that the elite performances are
given the recognition that they deserve within the guidelines for
competition that have been established for all the athletes. To do
otherwise denies an athlete the opportunity to gain the respect and
accolades for their elite performances; performances from the past, the
present and those yet to come.
Best regards in the new year,
Ron Knapp, Owner-MySportsResults.com
Ridgefield Girls' DMR Team In
Record Form...
(Dec 28, 2005) The
Ridgefield Girls' Distance Medley Relay team of senior Leah Rosenfeld,
senior Emily Heaslip, senior Katie Murdoch and sophomore Heather
Stephens continued their assault on the Connecticut State record book as
they established a new state indoor record of 12:16.36 at the Marine
Corps Holiday Classic on Tuesday - December 27 at the New Balance Track
and Field Center at the Armory in New York. The former DMR record of
12:22.26 was set last year at the Yale Invite by the Conard team of Heather Bemis, Molly Fresher,
Caitlin Cannon, and Emma Perron. On route to the new record,
Rosenfeld clocked 3:35.42 for the 1200m, Heaslip (60.32-400m), Murdoch
(2:23.09-800m) and Stephens (5:17.53-1600m). The same quartet set the
state outdoor DMR record of 12:04.21 at the National Championships last
