Conference Championship Week

Berkshire Showcase and CRV Championships Results...
(Feb 6, 2005) The results from both the Connecticut River Valley Championships at the New Haven Track & Field Center and the Berkshire League Showcase at Yale University in New Haven, CT are available online in the 2004-05 Weekly Results section.
Congratulations to the Old Saybrook Girls Team and the AI Prince Tech Boys Team in winning the team titles in the Connecticut River Valley Championships.
In the Berkshire League Showcase,  the Nonnewaug Girls Team and the Northwestern Regional Boys Team captured the team titles.

CCC Championship - 3peat for Manchester Boys - Glastonbury Girls Win Title...
(Feb 5, 2005) At the CCC Indoor Track and Field Championship meet held on Feb 5, 2005 at the New Haven Track & Field Center in New Haven, CT, the Manchester Boys team won the Championship for the third year in a row while the Glastonbury won the Girls team title.
Manchester powered to victory using their depth across several events as well as first place finishes from Brian Wirtala in the 600m and their 4x400m (3:36.18) and 1600m Sprint Medley (3:47.13) relays. Both relays for Manchester set meet records. Double-event winner Phil Mitchell of Glastonbury dominated both the 1000m (2:33.50) and 3200m (9:27.70) with meet record times. Other meet records came from Conard in the 4x800m (8:27.65), Wethersfield in the 4x200m (1:35.62) and McNeil Johnson of East Hartford in the 55m Hurdles (7.88).
The Glastonbury Girls team secured their first team title with record-setting first place performances from Kristin Mitchell in the 1600m (5:09.97) and 3200m (11:38.34). More meet records were turned in by the Conard 4x800m Relay (9:44.26), Weaver's 4x200m, 4x400m and 1600m Sprint Medley Relays (1:47.85 - 4:04.89 - 4:24.57), Kelsey LeBuffe of Hall in the 1000m (3:05.72), Sherice Hewitt of Weaver in the 600m (1:41.36) and Stacey-Ann Smith of Bloomfield in the 55m dash (7:08) and 300m (40.67).

Repeat Titles for Amity High School in SCC Championships...
(Feb 4, 2005) Amity High School has repeated as Boys and Girls conference champions in the SCC Indoor Track and Field Championship meet held on Feb 3, 2005 at the New Haven Track & Field Center in New Haven, CT.
The Amity Girls team was lead by first place performances from Sonia Haerizadeh in the 1600m, Celia Keniry in the High Jump, and their 4x800m and 1600m Sprint Medley Relay teams. Double-winners included Natasha Harvey of Career in the Long Jump and 55m Hurdles and Kelly Libert of Hillhouse in the 300m and 600m.
In the Boys meet, Amity was powered to the team title by first places in the 55m dash by Jason Ellis, Damian  Silverstrim in the Shot Put and their 4x200m relay. Other notable winning performances were recorded by Anthony Roberson of Hamden in the High Jump, Jay Koloseus of Guilford in the 1600m and 3200m runs, and Lyndon Pitter of Hamden in the 300m dash.

Ellington Boys and Suffield Girls Capture NCCC Championships...
(Feb 4, 2005) In the NCCC Indoor Track and Field Championship meet held on Feb 2, 2005 at the New Haven Track & Field Center in New Haven, CT, the Ellington Boys team and the Suffield Girls Team captured the top team titles. Spectators were treated to several meet record performances including Jeff Morgan of Ellington in the Boys Long Jump, David Macklem of Tolland in the Boys 1600m, Doug Perkins of East Windsor in the Boys High Jump, Whitney Tagliavini of Suffield in the Girls Long Jump 55m dash, Tina Oyeiya of Enfield in the Girls 55m Hurdles, the Stafford Girls 4 x 200m relay and the Ellington Girls 4 x 400m relay.

ECC Championship Results...
(Jan 30, 2005) The Eastern Connecticut Conference Championships for both Large and Small schools were contested at the US Coast Guard Academy on Saturday, 1-29-05. In the Large School division, the East Lyme Women's team claimed the team title over runner-up Fitch, 185 to 112 points, while in the Men's meet, the Fitch team scored a victory over East Lyme, 132 to 114 points. In the Small School division championship, Windham captured the Women's team title over runner-up Waterford, 116-95 points. In the Men's meet, Griswold scored 148 point to secure first place over second place Bacon Academy with 96.5 points.

RHAM Girls and Rocky Hill Boys Top Teams at NWC Championships...
(Jan 26, 2005) In the NorthWest Conference Championship meet held on Saturday 1-22-05 at Wesleyan University, the RHAM Girls and Rocky Hill Boys teams won the 2005 team titles. Although the RHAM Girls team only won two events, the 4x400m and 4x800m relays, they still prevailed by one point (96 to 95 points) over runner-up Middletown. RHAM secured the victory with a solid team effort that outweighed the four events won by Nora Miller of Middletown in the 55m, 55mHurdles, 300m and Long Jump.
In the Boys Championship, Rocky Hill dominated the meet in winning six events to score 146 points over second place RHAM with 77 points. Rocky Hill was led by victories from Colin O'Brien in the 55m and 300m dash as well as the 4x200m relay. Rocky Hill also scored first place points in the 600m (Steve Cios), 55m Hurdles (Chris Homick) and the 4x400m and Sprint Medley relays. RHAM was led by wins from Mike Shonk (High Jump), Chris Mukon (pole Vault) and Gabe Moraga in the 1600m.

Torrington and Naugatuck Win NVL Championships...
(Jan 24, 2005) In the Naugatuck Valley Championship meet held on Friday 1-21-05 at Wesleyan University, the Torrington Girls and Naugatuck Boys teams captured the team titles. Torrington was led by victories from Daniella Ponte in the Pole Vault, and the 4x200m and 4x400m Relays to post 127 points. Wilby was runner-up with 104 points. The Naugatuck Boys team was led by triple-winner Joe Ardito in Long Jump and both the 55m and 300m dashes. Naugatuck also received first places from Nick Dowling in Pole Vault and the 1600m Sprint Medley and 4x400m relays. Naugatuck outscored second place Wilby, 160 to 147.5 points.
