Green and Calle Named National Scholastic
Indoor Track & Field Academic All-Americans...
(Mar 18, 2004) Two of
Connecticut's outstanding athletes were honored by the National
Scholastic Indoor Championships and the The Metropolitan Athletics
Congress as Academic All-Americans. Chris Green of Berlin and
Liz Calle of Danbury were named to the National Scholastic
Academic All American Team.

Track & Field Championship and Nike Indoor Championships...

Congratulations to double-winner Gavin Coombs of Griswold who
claimed victories in the 1-mile and 2-mile races at the NSI meet in New
York on Sunday. Coombs led from the start in
the Boys 1-mile race to finish first
in a time of 4:10.93 followed closely by Michael Banks (MA) in 4:11.00.
Coombs was passed during the sixth lap but closed with a 59-second last
quarter to improve upon his time of 4:11.35 in January.
Coombs later came back to easily win the 2-mile in 9:13.08. Also on
Sunday, the Hillhouse Boys 4x200m Relay team of Kyle Watkins, Corey
Sullivan, Tyrell Duncan, and Donald Mcauley set a new state indoor
record of 1:30.45 to finish in fifth place. The Danbury Boys 4x400m
relay team broke a ten year old record formerly held by Prince Tech
when they placed seventh in 3:21.32. Danbury's record-breaking team
consisted of
Antonio Harrison, Elonzo Young, Steven Rochester, and Leon Breece.
Also on Sunday, Chris Green of Berlin placed sixth in the 800m in
a time of 1:54.94.
In the Girls events, Connecticut's top performance came from Shantea
Calhoun of Wilbur Cross in the 60m Dash where she ran 7.70 for a
sixth place finish. She also placed seventh in the 200m with a time of
24.75.
In results from Friday night at the NSI meet in New York, a season best
effort of 15:21.24 from David Krause of Amity in the 5000m earned
him a silver medal. Also in final results from Friday, Marsha
Locke (Danbury) and Dominique Burrell (Hillhouse) placed 4-5
in the Shot Put. Nasha Cadette of Career High School place 5th in
the Long Jump with a leap of 18' 5.75".

indoor track and field athletes have their choice of two national
indoor track and field meets in which to participate during the weekend of
March 12-14. Athletes have entered to compete in either the
Nike Indoor Championships from
Saturday, March 13
to Sunday March 14, 2004 at
PG County Sportsplex, in Landover MD or the
National
Scholastic Indoor Track & Field Championship at the Armory Track and
Field Center in New York City on Friday, March 12 through Sunday, March
14th, 2004.

New England Indoor Championship Meet Info...

has obtained and reposted the meet information for the 17th Annual New
England Interscholastic Boys’ and Girls’ Indoor Track & Field
Championships to be held at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center,
Roxbury, MA on Friday, February 27th, 2004, starting at 5:30 PM. The
meet is sponsored by The N.E. Council of Secondary School Principals’
Associations.
