Meets this Weekend...
(Jan 22, 2004) The SCC
Coaches Invitational at the New Haven Track & Field Center in New
Haven, CT. is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 24.
The Central Connecticut Conference has completed one of two
of their qualifier meets for the meet championship scheduled for Jan.
31. The results of the CCC Girls Qualifier meet held on Jan 22 are

The CCC Boys Qualifier Meet is scheduled for Saturday, Jan.
24 at Glastonbury High School.

22nd Yale High School Classic...
(Jan 21, 2004) The results
of the Girls 1-Mile Run have been updated to reflect the correction of
the original disqualification of Amie Schumacher of Holy Cross. She
officially placed second in the event with a time of 5:04:30.

New Feature - Performers of the Week...
(Jan 14, 2004) A new
feature to MySportsResults.com coverage of Indoor Track and Field in
Connecticut added this week is the weekly recognition of individuals who
have distinguished themselves in a meet the past week. We will recognize
both male and female athletes in track and field events each Wednesday
night.
The MySportsResults.com Performers of the Week are:
Boys Field: Myles Bradley of Norwich
was named Meet MVP and Best in Field for his double win in the Long Jump
(21'10") and 55m Hurdles (7.87) at the 61st Hartford Public Meet.
Boys Track: Ahmed Haji of Conard-West
Hartford ran the 1-mile race in his first meet of the indoor season
at the Citi Hispanic Games and finished in a school record 4:16.62 for
third place.
Girls Field: Daniela Ponte of Torrington
cleared 9'2" in the pole vault at the 61st Hartford Public Meet to
eclipse Leah Williams record of 9'0" set in 2001.
Girls Track: Shanea
Calhoun of Wilbur Cross for her performances at the 61st Hartford
Public Meet in winning the 55m dash, second in the 300m and anchoring
the winning 4x400m relay.

Strong Showing for Wilbur Cross Girls and
Notre Dame Boys at 61st
Hartford Public Invite...
(Jan 11, 2004) The talents
of the Wilbur Cross Girls team and the Notre Dame of West
Haven Boys team were on display at the 61st
Hartford Public High School Indoor Track and Field Invitational held
Saturday, January 10, 2004 at Bacon Field House - Wesleyan University in
Middletown CT. Both teams capitalized on performances across a number of
events to win the team titles; Wilbur Cross outscored runner-up Amity
58-32 while Note Dame took the title ahead of second place Ledyard,
44-30.33.
Boys' Meet:
The Boys running events started with a competitive 4x800m Relay as
Manchester, Notre Dame and Ledyard battled for first place. In a close
finish, Manchester set the only Boy's Meet Record of the day with
a 8:15.19 clocking, easily breaking their record from last year of
8:24.06. The two other distance races; the 1-Mile and 3200m, provided
the other notable races of the day. In the Boys Russell Scott Mile Run,
Jay Koloseus of Guilford leaned past Tradelle Ward of Griswold
at the line to win in 4:24.33 to Ward's 4:24.34. In the 3200m, Brian
Cacace of Notre Dame battled with Dave Metzger of Ellington
and Dave Holliday of Ledyard to win in 9:45.15. Notre Dame also
received valuable performances from Scott Giordano with a win in
the 300m and third in the 55m dash as well as from Tyril Dwaybe
in the winning the High Jump to take home the first place team trophy.
For his effort in the 1-Mile run, Koloseus was named Best in
Track. Myles Bradley of Norwich was named Meet MVP and Best in
Field for his double win in the 55m Hurdles (7.87) and Long Jump
(21'10").

Girls' Meet:
The Girls meet competition was highlighted by several performances
including the only meet record set by Daniela Ponte of Torrington
in the Pole Vault when she cleared 9'2" to eclipse Leah Williams record
of 9'0" set in 2001. For her effort, Aponte was named Meet Most Valuable
Performer. The 4x800m Relay team from Amity Regional came close
to breaking Ridgefield's meet record of 9:58.31 when they won in
9:59.68. Tahari James of Branford out jumped Nora Miller of
Middletown by three inches to win the Long Jump in 17'3". James
also high jumped 5'0" for fourth place and was awarded Best in Field.
The Girls 1-Mile run was a close call as the top six finishers were
within three seconds with Sonia Haerizadeh of Amity winning in
5:28.77. In the last event of the meet, Wilbur Cross and New Britain
dueled in the 4x400m Relay with Wilbur Cross winning in 4:15.08 to
4:15.37. Wilbur Cross was led to the team title by sisters Shanea and
Shantea Calhoun; Shantea won the 300m and opened the 4x400m, Shanea
won the 55m dash, second in the 300m and anchored the 4x400m. Shanea
Calhoun was awarded the Best in Track for her performances. Wilbur
Cross also received valuable performances from Margarita Landeius
(3rd-400m), Shameka Witcher (3rd-3200m) as well as a second place
in the 4x800m relay.

State Athletes on The Road This Weekend...
(Jan 8, 2004) A very busy
weekend for track and field athletes from around the state as many are
scheduled to compete this weekend in meets from Dartmouth College to the
Armory in New York City to the University of Rhode Island to Wesleyan
University. Suffield and East Catholic are entered in the 35th Annual
Dartmouth Relays at Dartmouth College with events on Friday through
Sunday. Conard, Hillhouse and Bloomfield have entrants in the Tenth
Annual Citibank Hispanic Games at the New York City Armory.
Last year, the meet drew more than
5000 athletes from 150 high schools in the one day meet. The 2004
Rhody High School Classic on Saturday includes athletes from New
London, Hopkins, East Lyme, Enfield, Fitch, Ledyard, Middletown, and S.
Windsor. Many of the state's
top athletes and teams are scheduled in events at the 61st
Hartford Public High School Indoor Track and Field Invitational
scheduled for Saturday, January 10, 2004 at Bacon Field House - Wesleyan

Hillhouse Girls and Xavier Boys Tops at New
Haven Coaches Relays...
(Jan 4, 2004) The Hillhouse
Girls team and the Xavier Boys team captured first places at the New
Haven Coaches Relays Meet held on Saturday, Jan 3, 2004 at the New Haven
Track & Field Center in New Haven, CT.
In the all-relays meet, Hillhouse outscored runner-up Wilbur Cross of
new Haven 60 to 50 while RHAM was close behind in third place with 49
points. On the boys side of the ledger, Xavier outpaced runner-up
Ledyard 77-50 while Hyde Leadership School scored 45 to place third.

61st Hartford Public Indoor
Invite Information...
(Dec 30, 2003) The 61st
Hartford Public High School Indoor Track and Field Invitational is
scheduled for Saturday, January 10, 2004 at Bacon Field House - Wesleyan
University in Middletown CT.
Registration deadline by mail is
January 2, 2004. Coaches can
view the Meet Information, Order of Events, Standards, and print
their Event Entry forms at the meet's website:

To Your Marks...Indoor Season Starts at New
Haven...
(Dec 20, 2003) The
Connecticut high school Indoor Track and Field season started today with the 2nd New
Haven Invitational at the New Haven Track & Field Center in New
Haven, CT. This well run meet organized by Hillhouse coach Gary Moore
has become the inaugural meet of the indoor season where athletes of all
calibers from a few states can test their early season speed, strength
and skills in the facility that will host the State meets in February.
The meet also offers the chance for younger runners to compete as there
are relays for the different grades; freshman, sophomore and varsity.
Highlights
of the meet included a facility record in the pole vault by Bradley
Holtz of Barrington RI with a vault of 14'0".
Elzie Coleman of Newburgh NY ran a very quick 200m at 22.11 and
followed it with a winning 400m in 51.74. Brandon McLean of Hyde
long jumped 22'3" for first place. In an exciting 3200m, Brian Cacace
of Notre Dame edged Dave Holliday of Ledyard, 9:54.63 to
9:55.12.
In the girls shot put, Dominique Burrell of Hillhouse threw
37'11" to capture first place. In the girls sprint events, the
Calhoun sisters of Wilbur Cross showed early season speed in
capturing the 1-2 in the 55m (Shantea first) and 200m (Shanea
first) dashes. Continuing from her successful cross country, Amie
Schumacher of Holy Cross won the 1600 (5:02.29) and the 3200m
(10:54.80).
