Opening Day saw 6 tri-meet/double dual venues in the ECC. All 6 venues pitted a Large, Medium and Small school against one another.

In boys' action Woodstock (L) beat medium host Plainfield and Putnam (S), while Plainfield also beat Putnam.  East Lyme (L) beat both host Lyman and Bacon (M), and Bacon beat Lyman. Norwich Free Academy (L) pounded both New London (S) and Stonington (M), while host Ledyard (L) lost to Griswold (S) and defeated Killingly (M), but Killingly turned the tables on Griswold. Fitch (L) beat both Windham (M) and Tourtellotte (S) and Montville (M) beat host Waterford (L) and St. Bernard (S).

Girls' action saw Woodstock (L) defeat medium host Plainfield and Putnam (S), while Plainfield locked up Putnam. NFA (L) pounded New London (S) and Stonington (S), Fitch (L) was all over Windham (M) and Tourtellotte (S) and Ledyard (L) took the measure of both Killingly (M) and Griswold (S). East Lyme (L)defeated Bacon (M) and Lyman (S), while Bacon defeated Lyman.  Host Waterford (L) defeated both Montville (M) and St. Bernard (S).

Wheeler is the only school not represented in track and field.

Killingly's Zach Hajder broke a 12-year old school record in the 110 hurdles with his 14.8 clocking. Chris Weaver had the old mark at 14.9 Also Lauren Hultzman set a new school record in the triple jump with her 33 foot 5 inch leap. That breaks the old mark of Olivia Tsakiris-Alston (33-3 1/2).

Highlights - Alex Mercier of Woodstock and Hajder are on a collision course at ECCs as both went under 15 seconds in the 110 hurdles yesterday. Alex went 14.7 just a tenth of a second faster than Zach. NFA started the season with 3 strong performances from Ricardo DaSilva (11.1) in the 100 dash, Chris Antoine picking up where he left off in indoor with a 6-4 high jump clearance and Anthony Facchini popping a 21-footer in the long. Facchini is no slouch in the shot either as he leads the way with a 49-7 toss. Hajder's 41-10 in the triple puts him on the leader board for Killingly, as well as his ECC tops 300 hurdle mark at 42.3

The girls' had some show stoppers of their own as Rachel Gavin of New London grabbed the early 100 hurdle lead from Marissa Lowe of Fitch. Rachel's 15.8 was a blazer for this time of the season. NFA unveiled a new thrower in Megan Chapman who tossed the shot over 34, then came back with a 112 foot toss in the discus. Wahnetah Carty leaped 16-9 in the long jump in her quest to go after the 17-year-old ECC record of 18-6. Kaylan Pickford went 12.7 for the 'Cats in the 100 as did Amber Baker of Griswold. Ledyard Sophomore Emily Loy scorched the track in 26.6 in the 200...nice early season form. Ledyard's Allison Mueller went 35 plus in the triple to set a nice early season standard in that event. East Lyme' Brianne Mirecki picked up where she left off during indoors with a 1600 meter time under 5:30 to start the season.

Some ECC teams will also run on Saturday at the Bellringer Invite in East Hampton. Good luck to all.
