GIRLS RACES
Phase Two is complete for Kara Kochanski’s Norwich Free Academy Wildcats as her girls’ team finished the last race of the day with the LL crown. The Wildcats scored 94 points easing past 2nd place New Milford and a 1-2 finish from the third place Glastonbury harriers. Sarah Eagan was 3rd, Cassy Hunter 6th, Rebecca Smolenski 18th, Brianna Lenehan 24th, and Lindsay Fisher was 43rd to put the wraps on the Class championship on a warm day at Wickham.
Class L action saw East Lyme finish 5th behind Brianne Mirecki’s 9th place effort. Sarah Huang was the runner-up in Class MM leading her Waterford team to 9th place. Griswold’s girls had the 2nd best finish from an ECC team as they took 4th place in Class M led by the 11th place finish of Kendall McGrath. Class SS featured Lyman Memorial taking 9th overall behind Rebecca Runkle’s 21st place. Finally, in Class S, St. Bernard ran well taking 11th overall with Kyra Coughlin leading the Saints at 31st as an individual.

The top ten ECC times on the course were run by Eagan at 19:49, Huang 20:10, Hunter 20:18, Mirecki 20:36, Ledyard’s Cedar Nelson 20:46, Woodstock freshman Casandra Giuliani 20:48, Fitch’s Brandy LeClair 20:55, Smolenski 21:02, Lenehan 21:09 and McGrath 21:12.

Top finishers for each team included Bacon’s Courtney Benoit, Montville’s Shatajah Wattely, Stonington’s Liz Hutchins, Killingly’s Kies Orr, Windham’s Leslie Garabedian, Tourtellotte’s Kate Tupaj, Wheeler’s Shannon McBride, and Plainfield’s Haley Beasoleil in addition to the aforementioned Eagan, LeClair, Mirecki, Nelson, Giuliani, Huang, Runkle, Coughlin and McGrath.

BOYS’ RACES
Saint Bernard finished 3rd in the Class S meet on the strength of Justin Missey-Higgins 2nd place finish. Lyman’s Dan Fields won the S race and posted the second fastest ECC time of the day. Ledyard posted a 5th in the Class M race with Nathaniel Hernandez leading the Colonel charge finishing 17th individually. Chris Chapman reasserted himself as the ECCs best individual runner after taking the ECC win last week and putting up the best time of any ECC runner today finishing in 7th place in the L race. Chapman led his team to 6th while touring the course in 17:13. Holland Rajaniemi of Woodstock helped his squad to a 7th place in the MM race finishing 13th as an individual. Mark Mackin led Griswold to 8th in the Class SS race as Mackin finished in the top 20 at number 18. Finally, Dan Cardin was the top finisher for NFA leading his team to 14th in the very deep and very tough LL tilt.
The top ten times on today’s course were run by Chapman in 17:13, Fields 17:18, Higgins 17:31, Cardin 17:33, Bacon’s Andrew Hill 17:35, Rajaniemi 17:59, Fitch’s Ryan Ludlam 18:01, Mackin 18:03, Fitch’s Alex Olenforff 18:10 and Woodstock’s Carl Underwood 18:12.
Top finishers for each team included Ben Ostrowski- East Lyme, Scott May- Waterford, Mike Preble- Montville, Ryan Lee- Stonington, Angel Ocasio- Windham, Noel Hall- Tourtellotte, William Walsh- Putnam, Justin Parenteau- Wheeler, and Tyler Rouillard- Plainfield along with the aforementioned Cardin, Chapman, Hernandez, Rajaniemi, Hill, Fields, Missey-Higgins, and Mackin.
