The recent assault on the Connecticut State Indoor Track and Field Recordbook by junior Precious Holmes of Hillhouse HS in New Haven CT highlights the second issue of the New England Indoor Track and Field Leaders report issued veteran track statistician Larry Newman this week. Holmes has reset three state records and contributed to equal another one as part of a relay team in two meets; the 43rd Dartmouth Relays on 1/6-7/2012 and the SCC Coaches' Invitational Indoor Meet on 1/14/2012.
Starting at the 43rd Dartmouth Relays on Friday, January, 6, 2012, the Hillhouse-New Haven Relay Girls 1600m Sprint Medley Relay quartet of Kellie Davis, Precious Holmes, Johnnesse Peterson and Jaliyah White equaled the state mark of 4:07.11 to capture first place. They now share the state mark with their team from last season of Angeline Foreman, Johnnesse Peterson, Precious Holmes, Kellie Davis that set the mark at the New Balance Indoor Nationals. Continuing at the Dartmouth Relays on Saturday, Holmes blazed to a first place in the Girls 400m Dash in 55.08 to lower the previous state mark of 56.39 set by Monica Hargrove of Hillhouse in 2000.
A week later at the SCC Coaches' Invitational Indoor Meet on January 14, 2012 at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven, Holmes sped to an easy looking 1:32.61 in the Girls 600m Run to lower the former mark of 1:33.43 set by Annelies Gamble of Amity in 2009. Later in the meet, Holmes captured the 300m Dash in 39.09 to eclipse the former mark of 39.17 that was held by both Shayla Wallace of NW Catholic in 1996 and Stacey-Ann Smith of Bloomfield from the 2006 Yale Classic.
