Guilford Distance Clinic Featuring Cary Weisiger in March

Guilford cross country coach Jon Faitsch has announced the Guilford Distance Clinic scheduled for March 12, 2011 at Guilford High School in Guilford CT. The featured speaker is Mr. Cary Weisiger, whose athletic resume includes former American Record holder in the 1500m 3:39.3 (1963), ten sub 4-minute miles and was ranked 7th and 5th in the world in the mile (1962 &1963). Mr. Wiesiger's coaching resume includes the Camp Pendleton (Marine Team), Christian High School, San Diego, CA, and head XC and asst. track coach San Diego State. 9:00 am – Introduction

9:15 am – Chris Dickerson   Owner of the Woodbridge Running Co.

    John Gregorek   Former Olympic runner, Former College D 1 Cross Country & Track Coach   and currently Team Sales Rep for Asics. Chris and John will go over the latest in shoe technology. The importance of getting the right shoe for each type of runner and what kind of shoe to look for. Woodbridge Running Company will also raffle off many items.

10:00am- 10:15 am – Break

10:15am – Rob Murray   Danbury HS boys' coach

Danbury has dominated the cross country and track scene during Murray’s tenure as head coach winning five CT State Open XC, four indoor and three outdoor track titles in ten years.  His Danbury teams have won every conference, class and open championship over a three-year period and the Hatters have held 12 state records in track.  Danbury’s cross country teams have competed in Nike Team Nationals three times with a high finish of 5th in 2007.  He has been honored as CT High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year for cross country, indoor and outdoor track. Rob will detail what makes his team so successful and how to apply those methods to your program.

Ranked 7th and 5th in the world in the mile (1962 &1963)

Won 7 ACC titles while at Duke.

Coached at Camp Pendleton (Marine Team), Christian High School, San Diego, CA, and head XC and asst. track coach San Diego State. Cary will discuss his training methods-- interval work progression system and some of the ABC's of his psychological approach---- "Make the process your goal and the results will take care of themselves."
