Hello, my name is Aurora Edington and I'm currently a senior at E.O. Smith High School. I am also a 4 year varsity runner and captain of the cross country team under Coach Jorge Guerra.

Being a longtime runner, I know firsthand how many pairs of running shoes that we, the running community, have lying around our homes. Accordingly, I'm reaching out to the cross country teams of Connecticut to donate and recycle their clean, gently-used running shoes for my shoe drive, "Soles4Souls"!

Over the last couple years, the nonprofit organization, Soles4Souls has donated shoes to people in need throughout 125 countries. I am hosting a shoe drive and aim to collect as many pairs of shoes as I can over the 2010 cross country season for donation.

I would really appreciate it if you could speak to your athletes and running colleagues about collecting their worn running shoes and asking them to donate them to my cause. I will have collection cardboard boxes with "Soles4Souls" written on the side next to the big red E.O. Smith Cross Country tent. Please, feel free to drop your shoes off in the boxes at anytime during any of the races and I will take care of the rest!

I will be collecting at the following large races:

  • CCC East Championships, October 20: Wickham Park
  • State Class Championships, October 30: Wickham Park
  • State Open Championships, November 5: Wickham Park

If you have any questions, please, feel free to contact me by my e-mail: Soles4SoulsConnecticut@hotmail.com

For more information about Soles4Souls you can go to their website, www.soles4souls.org.

Please, share this notice with all of your teammates asap to get them thinking about collecting their unused shoes and bring to one of the meets listed above!

Thank you for all of your help!

Sincerely,

Aurora Edington
