NEW DATE: Thursday, MAY 30, 2019 -- CLASS L CHAMPIONSHIP – at Middletown High School, Middletown CT

Boys Class L

Favorites: Hall, Xavier

Top Teams Bristol Central, Windsor, Notre Dame-West Haven, Amity, Pomperaug

Hall and Xavier have been friendly rivals and will go at it once again for the Class L title. Both have great distance runners, but Hall has a slight advantage in the sprints.

Individuals to watch:

Depending on who comes into the 800m fresh, it could be a great race with Miller Anderson of Hall, Jose Ramirez of Bristol Central and Pierre Sylvain of Xavier all in the 1:54s.

Round four of the Cozean- Cormier duel. Robbie Cozean and Trey Cormier have met three times this season and they have pushed each other to nationally ranked times with Cozean barely coming out on top. Both are entered in the 1600m and 3200m and with a championship on the line, let’s see who comes out on top.

Windsor has some of the best sprinters in the state and they will join to try to break their own meet record set six years ago. They own the top time in the state of 41.98 and if the weather cooperates, they could go under that time.

Two of the top pole vaulters in the state are Zachary Koslosky of Naugatuck and Jackson Hemphill of Fairfield Ludlowe and should push each other to go over 14 feet.

Girls Class L

Favorites: Hall, Windsor

Top Teams: Simsbury, Conard, Wilbur Cross, Wethersfield, Darien

Hall is the more balanced team, but where Windsor is strong, they are very strong.

Individuals to watch:

Windsor, led by Cori Richardson, has the top sprinters in the class and could clean up in the sprints. She is the top seed in the 100m and 200m dash and Windsor has seven of the top nine seeds in the 200m with Jalah Cooper the top seed in the 400m.

Footlocker finalist and meet record holder Kate Wiser of Pomperaug is entered only in the 3200m and she should be going for a fast time which means the meet record could go down.

The throws have really picked up the past couple of years and Susie Okoli of Wilbur Cross is the top seed in the shot and discus. She won the State Open this winter and will be looking to add another title to her resume.
