The Norwich Free Academy Boys and Girls teams recorded their third consecutive sweep of team titles at the Eastern Connecticut Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship held Monday at East Lyme High School in East Lyme CT.
The NFA Boys team won their fourth consecutive team title with 116.50 points over runner-up Ledyard with 91 points. The NFA team victory was fueled by wins from Andrew Cote in the 400m dash (50.36), Jahiem Spruill in the High Jump (6-04) and Long Jump (21-10) and their 4x800m (8:21.36) and 4x400m (3:26.50) relays.
Other multiple individual event winners included senior Sam Whittaker of East Lyme wo secured to victories in the 1600m (4:19.78) and 3200m (9:47.99) runs as well as Enrique Lopez Garcia of Windham in the 110m (14.85) and 300m (39.00) hurdles.
The NFA Girls team overpowered runner-up Bacon Academy by a 119 to 79.50-point margin using points from three-time winner Allyson Lewis in the 200m dash (25.74), Long Jump (19-01.50) and High Jump (5-8). Her Long Jump mark set a new meet record eclipsing the former mark of 18-06 set by Amy Stuyniski of Killingly in 1993 while her height in the High Jump tied the existing record that she co-holds with Nicole Kadyszewski. Teammate Paige Martin also scored two wins taking the Pole Vault (11-06) and the Triple Jump (35-06.50).
Another meet record was set by Natalie Rolon-Issa of Bacon Academy as she won the Shot Put with a mark of 42-02.75 that passed the former record of 41-09.25 set by Mechel Artis of NFA in 1992. Rolon-Issa also won the Discus Throw with a toss of 113-02. Teammate Jessica Savage had a banner day as she won the 100m Hurdles (16.22), the Javelin Throw (101-09) and placed second in the 300m Hurdles (48.13). Their freshman teammate Jordan Malloy earned two victories in the 1600m (5:24.24) and 3200m (11;54.75) runs.
