State’s Best Perform Well at New England Weight Throw Championship

msr  The New England High School Weight Throw Championship meet held in Providence, RI on Thursday February 21st featured several state athletes who qualified for New Balance Indoor Nationals including Michael Browning of RHAM and Allyah Boothe of Bloomfield as both took home bronze medals.

In the Boys 25lb Weight Throw Championship event won by Kyle Moison (Lincoln RI) with a toss of 70’00”, Browning, the State Open champion in the Shot Put, threw his personal best with a 67’2” throw. Browning’s throw is ranked the 24th best in the country according to Bob Gourley’s weekly national performance list. His throw is less than two and a half feet short of Danbury’s Robert Guider’s state record of 69’7.25” set at the meet in 2009.

The Girls 20lb Weight Throw Championship event was won by Cheyenne Figueroa (Classical RI) with a mark of 57’5.75”. In a personal best effort, Booth threw 49’11.50” which ranks as the 31st best throw nationally and less than four feet of the state record 53’8.75” set by Karina Foster of Bloomfield’s eight years ago.

Additional Connecticut athletes qualifying for the New Balance Indoor Weight Throw Championship event on March 8-10 in New York were Coventry’s Joseph Lanham, who threw 64’5.5” good for fifth place and Southington’s Trinity Cardillo, seventh place, with her heave of 48’10”.

Athlete who qualified for the New Balance Indoor Weight Throw Emerging Elite event included Bloomfield’s Aaron Williams with his 9th place throw of 60’5”, which is a school record. Sophomore Leah Moore of Hillhouse threw 46’2.25” to also earn a start in the Emerging Elite event.
