Xavier Boys Place 18th at Nike Cross Nationals Championship

meet logo On a wet 5k course under rainy skies on Saturday December 2, 2017, the Xavier Boys team placed eighteenth in a field of twenty-two teams at the 14th Nike Cross Nationals Championship at Glendoveer Golf Course, Portland Oregon. Competing under the Middlesex team name, the Xavier team amassed 358 points in the meet behind the winning Loudoun Valley VA (Purcellville) team with 89 points. Aidan Troutner of Timpview (UT) earned the first place honors in a time of 15:03.83 to edge runner-up Brodey Hasty (Brentwood, TN) in 15:05.88. Sophomore Katelyn Tuohy of North Rockland NY won first place honors in the Girls Championship race in a time of 16:44.7 as the Fayetteville-Manlius team won with 89 points.

The Xavier Boys team finish featured Peter Schulten (16:23.1), Dillon Selfors (16:27.8), Owen Curran (16:29.4), William Curran (16:33.9), Robbie Cozean (16:55.8), Trevor Christie (16:56.0) and Owen Lally (17:13.4).

Xavier became the third Connecticut team to compete at the Nike Cross Nationals Championship following on the heels of the Staples (Westport) team that placed 22nd at the 2016 Championship meet. The most successful showing by a state team was the 2007 Danbury Boys team with a fifth place finish that was sandwiched between an 18th place at the 2006 meet and a 21st place at the 2008 meet. Individual qualifiers have also represented Connecticut with Lindsey Crevoiserat of Glastonbury (2009-10), Trevor Hopper of Ridgefield (2013) and Austin Gilbert of Ridgefield (2014).
