Xavier Boys Team Wins Nike Northeast Cross Championship Title to Qualify for National Meet

meet logo At the 2017 Nike Northeast Cross Championships at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls, NY on Saturday, the Xavier Boys team emerged victorious competing under the Xavier Distance club name to earn a trip to the 14th Nike Cross Nationals Championship on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at Glendoveer Golf Course, Portland Oregon.

The Xavier team won the Boys Northeast Cross Championship race over the 5km course with a score of 112 points to edge the defending champion Brothers XC Club with 123 points. The individual race winner was Chris Romero of Hunterdon XC in 15:56. The Xavier team victory featured a 15th place by William Curran (16:40) followed by Dillon Selfors in 16th at 16:41 with Robbie Cozean (19th-16:44), Peter Schulten (35th-16:55) and Owen Curran (39th-16:58) completing the top five team scoring. Also competing for Xavier were Owen Lally (72-17:16) and Trevor Christie (89-17:25). The race also included Connecticut team finishes by Staples (Westport XC) in 8th with 289 points, Hall (Warriors XC) in 16th with 480 points and Haddam-Killingworth (HKXC) in 20th with 578 points.

The Girls Northeast Cross Championship race over the 5km course was won by New England champion Julia Robitaille of Manchester West NH in a time of 18:25. The field featured state teams that included Danbury (Danbury XC Club) finishing in 19th with 438 points, Haddam-Killingworth (HKXC) in 25th with 528 points and Trumbull (Trumbull Eagles Running) in 27th with 761 points.
