The spectators at the 2015 CIAC State Open Track and Field Championship today at Willow Brook Park in New Britain CT were treated to several special performances despite the gusty winds that fronted runners as they approached the finish line and swirled around the field events. The Windsor Boys team overcame strong challenges from several teams to earn their second State Open team title with 57.50 points as Danbury finished in second with 39.50 and Hillhouse of New Haven in third with 37.50 points. The Tolland Girls team won their first Outdoor team title to add to their recent Indoor State Open Championship and their Cross Country Open title last fall. In a close contest for the team title, Tolland scored 52 points followed by runner-up Windsor with 50, third place Staples of Westport with 47 points and fourth place Wilbur Cross of New Haven with 46 points.

The Windsor Boys claim to the CIAC Boys State Open Track and Field Championship was staked by two event victories in the 400m Dash by Courtney Rush in 48.52 and the 4x100m Relay in 41.78 with the team of Courtney Rush, Tyler Coyle, Yishay Brooks and Kyshawn Bonner. Windsor add valuable second place points in the 4x800m Relay (8:03.46 - Rajay Hinds, Kevin Boudreau, Ryan Harrington, Aaron Bell) behind Danbury at 7:58.46 as well as runner-up in the 4x400m Relay (3:21.31 - Rajay Hinds, Nathaniel Williams, Timothy Epps and Aaron Bell) behind the quick 3:19.52 by Weston. Kyshawn Bonner added more sprint points in the 100m Dash (5th) and the 200m Dash (4th). Tyler Coyle added points in the Long Jump (6th) and the High Jump (4th). Rajay Hinds also contributed with a fourth place in the 800m Run won by Spencer Brown of Wilton in 1:55.16.

A meet record was set in the Pole Vault as senior Chris Rough of overcame tough side-winds and a very talented field as he cleared 16'0" to increase the meet record height from 15'6" set in 2006 by Jordan Thull of East Lyme. The talented field included runner-up and defending champion Joseph Fogarasi of Windham (15'6"), third place finisher Ian Bergere of Daniel Hand (15'6") and fourth place Leland Roberts of Danbury (14'6").

Sophomore Mark Doley of Weaver overcame the gusty headwinds to win the 100m Dash in 10.82 and then took home gold in the 200m Dash in 22.15.

Senior Damon Vega of Windham Tech skillfully negotiated both hurdle races to win the 110m Hurdles (14.44) and the 300m Hurdles (39.03).

Anthony Bravo of Staples in Westport was another double event winner as he soared 23'9" in the Long Jump and then cleared 6'6" in the High Jump.

The quest by the Tolland Girls team to claim the final leg of the State Open Championship trifecta started last fall in cross country, continued through the indoor season and was realized at the CIAC Girls State Open Track and Field Championship. The Tolland Girls team victory was accomplished without any event wins but was fueled by taking ten places in eight of the eighteen events. Their 4x800m Relay team of Taylor Bonadies, Julia Sprout, Katherine Deloreto and Kelsey Swanson started the meet with a 9:24.29 second place and their 4x400m Relay team Karissa Laramie, Kelsey Swanson, Julia Sprout and Jenny Jacobs secured the title with a third place in 3:59.79. In-between, strong efforts came from Caitlin Swanson in the 1600m Run (4th) and Katherine Deloreto (5th) as well as the 3200m Run with Swanson in 2nd and Courtney Ackerly in 4th place. Jenny Jacobs was 4th in the 300m Hurdles and 7th in the Long Jump while Julia Sprout placed 3rd in the 400m Dash and Kelsey Swanson placed 6th in the 800m Run.

The only meet record was performed by defending 300m Hurdle champion Jaliyah White of Hillhouse of New Haven in a time of 43.18 to lower the mark she set last year 43.48 that she co-owned with Katy Sprout of Tolland from 2013.

Junior Danae Rivers of Wilbur Cross was a double event winner for a second consecutive year as she dueled with Hannah DeBalsi of Staples in the 1600m Run to win in 4:48.33 and then earned the win in the 800m Run in 2:14.94.

Hannah DeBalsi successfully defended her 3200m Run title with a time of 10:28.76 as Cassidy Palmer of Stafford also won the 100m Dash in 12.28 for the second consecutive year. Madeleine Schneider of Darien was the other defending champion to repeat as she won the Pole Vault by clearing 11'0".
