Hillhouse Boys and Windsor Girls Earn Titles at CIAC Class MM OTF Championships – Meet Record for Warner

On Tuesday at the CIAC Class MM Championship at Middletown High School in Middletown CT, the Hillhouse Boys and Windsor Girls teams earned the team titles under the power of several event victories. The Hillhouse Boys won their fourth Class MM title and twelfth overall by scoring 95 points as runner-up East Lyme scored 83.50 points. The Windsor Girls took home their second consecutive Class MM championship plaque and sixth overall in scoring 93 points to outdistance runner-up Nonnewaug with 58 points.

The Hillhouse Boys claimed their CIAC Boys Class MM Championship plaque on the strength of event victories by Akiel Smith in the 100m Dash (11.03) and the 200m Dash (22.37) as well as from Shawn Fletcher in the 110m Hurdles (14.95). Brendon Stewartson also won the 400m Dash in 49.81 and Hillhouse scored a win in the 4x400m Relay with a time of 3:28.70 with the quartet of Willie Brown Jr, Xavier Milling, Darius Wise and Brendon Stewartson. Important second place points were scored by Gabriel Abdul-Karim in the High Jump and Wise in the 200m Dash as well as third place points by Christopher Dickey in the Long Jump and Fletcher in the 300m Hurdles.

Abhishek Panigrahi of Bethel successfully defended both of his titles in the Shot Put (45-08.50) and Discus Throw (152-06).

Junior Griffin Cobb of Sheehan was another double event winner as he sped to victories in the 1600m Run (4:29.11) and the 800m Run (1:59.29).

The Windsor Girls CIAC Girls Class MM Championship team title was highlighted by victories in all three relays and double event wins by Kenya Warner in the 100m Hurdles (15.70) and the Triple Jump (37-11.75). Warner's Triple Jump effort bettered the former meet record of 37-07 set in 2010 by Allison Mueller of Ledyard. Jiana Baker also won the 200m Dash in 25.55 and a second place in the 100m Dash. The triple victories in the relays featured a 4x800m Relay time of 9:55.18 by Annicka McDonald, Rebecca Samuel, Brittney Brown and Candice Johnson; a 4x100m Relay time of 49.17 by Torrie Epps, Sashana Hinds, Erika Hightower and Jiana Baker and a 4x400m Relay time of 4:02.53 by Torrie Epps, Brittney Brown, Annicka McDonald and Sashana Hinds. Key second place points were also earned by Hinds in the 200m Dash.

Another double event winner was senior Haley Hasty of Rockville as she took gold in the 1600m Run (5:08.87) and the 3200m Run (11:13.86).

Two event victories were also earned by Taylor Lupini of Berlin in the 300m Hurdles (45.86) and the Long Jump (16-11) as well as Michaela Mendygral of Sheehan in the Shot Put (36-07.00) and the Discus Throw (118-09).
