The Ridgefield Boys and Staples Girls teams successfully defended their CIAC Class LL Championship win from a year ago with their narrow victories today at Willow Brook Park in New Britain CT in cool temperatures. The second title for Ridgefield Boys featured a similar scenario from last year as they defeated runner-up Danbury by a 102 to 99 point margin secured in the last event of the meet. The Staples Girls second state title with 84 points also came at the expense of runner-up Danbury with 78 points.

The chase for the CIAC Boys Class LL Championship title by Ridgefield featured 57 of their 102 points in races over 800m as Kristian Sogaard, Austin Gilbert and Clint Corso took places 2-3-4 in the 1600m Run, Sogaard and Johnathan Keating took first and third in the 800m Run, Gilbert and Corso also scored a first and fifth in the 3200m Run and their 4x800m Relay finished third. Additionally, Keating won the 400m Dash and Colin Storm finished second in the Pole Vault. With one event remaining, Ridgefield lead Danbury by a 92 to 91 point margin. Ridgefield won the 4x400m Relay with the team of Maxwell Day, Sogaard, David Angelo and Keating in 3:24.17 to narrowly defeat runner-up Danbury in 3:24.65 and take home the team title.

Double event victories were scored by Jawaun Johnson of Norwich Free Academy in the 100m Dash (11:04) and 200m Dash (22.12) as well as Anthony Bravo of Staples in the High Jump (6'2) and Long Jump (22'5").

The second consecutive CIAC Girls Class LL Championship team title by Staples was highlighted by victories on the track by Hannah DeBalsi and on the field by Elizabeth Knoll and Olivia Weiner. On the track, junior Hannah DeBalsi won her third consecutive 1600m Run title in 4:53.51 and her second consecutive victory in the 3200m Run in 10:31.63. Elizabeth Knoll won the High Jump with a 5'6" effort that tied the meet record set by Nicole Kadyszewski, Norwich Free Academy in 2001. Teammate Bridget van Dorsten placed second with a 5'2" effort. Knoll also placed fourth in the Long Jump while van Dorsten also placed second in the Triple Jump. Olivia Weiner secured firs place points in the Javelin Throw with a toss of 121'1" as teammate Reece Schachne placed second with a throw of 113'8". Wiener also placed third in the 300m Hurdles.

Another meet record was set in the Girls 4x800m Relay as the Glastonbury quartet of Morocca Wiley, Olivia Allen, Allison McArdle and Kaitlyn Hebert combined for a time of 9:14.96 to eclipse the former mark of 9:19.54 set by Danbury in 2010.

Other double event winners included Niema Riley of Danbury in the 100m Dash (12.32) and 200m Dash (25.40), Janaia Skibitcky of Cheshire in the Long Jump (17'4.75") and Triple Jump (35'3.75") as well as Samantha Stevens of Shelton in the Shot Put (36'7.75") and Discus (121'3").
