| In his final meet as a Connecticut high school runner, Chris FitzSimons of Hamden has added another State record to his list of stellar accomplisments as he finished second in the third heat of the 800m Run Trials in 1:49.36 at the 2010 USATF Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium in Des Moines Iowa on Thursday afternoon. The Villanova-bound FitzSimons time in the trials heat eclipsed the 23-year old record of 1:49.94 held by Mike Remigino of NW Catholic set at the Golden West Invite in 1987. FitzSimons had just participated in two other State record performances at the New Balance Nationals this past weekend in the 4x800m and Distance Medley relays.
His finishing time was the second fastest in the trials behind the 1:48.79 by former Connecticut standout Cas Loxsom, now of Penn State. After a 55-second first lap, FitzSimons held a brief lead starting the final 200 meters until Loxsom changed to a faster gear over the last 100 meters to win the heat. Both runners are scheduled to compete in the finals today at 1:40pm Central time.
