On day two of competition on Friday at the New Balance Outdoor Track and Field Nationals hosted by North Carolina A+T University in Greensboro, NC., the Hamden Boys 4x800m Relay team of Nick Saba, Patrick Cyr, Isiah Whiting and Chris FitzSimons won the gold medal in a finishing time of 7:35.68 in a close finish with runner-up Warwick TC in 7:35.86. Their winning time lowered the former State Record of 7:40.48 they had just set last weekend at the New England Championships.
Hamden 4x800m Relay National Champions
In the Girls 4x800m Relay race won by Stotan TC NY in 8:46.98, the Windsor squad of Nastasya Rodriques, Shayna Presley, Medinah Nabadduka and Sydnee Over placed 11th in a season best time of 9:12.82.
In the Girls 4x800 Meter Relay Emerging Elite event, the Hand-Madison quartet of Malin Althin, Sarah Cotton, Meghan Derken and Jennifer Hahne placed first in 9:20.07.
In another event final, Alex Levine of Danbury finished in 4:20.98 to place 8th in the Boys 1 Mile Run Emerging Elite race.
In the Girls 1 Mile Run Emerging Elite race, Annmarie Tuxbury of New Hartford placed 4th in finishing in 5:01.61.
Competition concludes today for several more state athletes.
