| In the first of three days of competition on Thursday at the New Balance Outdoor Track and Field Nationals hosted by North Carolina A+T University in Greensboro, NC. Chris Bendtsen of Wolcott placed eighth in the Mens 5k Run with a time of 15:02.59 behind winner Matt Mizereck of Tallahasse FL in 14:37.19. Also competing from the state were Connor Rog of Fairfield Prep (15th-15:32.44) and Thomas Moore of Danbury (26th-16:13.23).
In other events completed on Thursday, state athletes competing included:
Jamie Tobias of Bloomfield in the Boys High Jump Emerging Elite with a 6-04.25 effort for 4th place.
Jake Feinstein of Sandy Hook placed 9th in 4:30.83 and David Stankiewicz of Weston (19th-4:46.29) in the Boys 1 Mile Run Freshman event.
Courtney Kearse of Windsor placed 6th in 1:00.16 in the Girls 400 Meter Dash Freshman race.
Competition continues for several state athletes today and concludes on Saturday.
