The four final State Champions were crowned at the 2010 State Open Championships for the Girls Heptathlon, Boys 3k Steeplechase, Hammer Throw and Decathlon events at Veterans' Stadium in New Britain CT on Tuesday, June 16, 2010.
In the CIAC Girls Heptathlon Championship, senior Christy Gasparino of Darien, the first day leader, maintained her lead over the final three events to win with a total of 4233 points. Her only event victory came in the 100m Hurdles, where she had earned the recent Class L title. The Heptathlon runner-up was Alisha Beeman of Bunnell with 4104 points while the bronze medal was awarded to Amanda Snajder of Masuk with 3916 points.

In the CIAC Boys Decathlon Championship, senior Jacob Drozd of Seymour kept the pace over the final five events contested today to win with 5962 points. Drozd solidified his quest to the title in his specialty event, the Javelin Throw, where he won with a toss of 199'8" that was 30' more than runner-up Samuel Frey of Coginchaug. Frey finished with 5679 points while William Gazlay of St. Bernard placed third with 5603 points. Drozd also was top performer in the Discus Throw, Shot Put and High Jump.

The CIAC Boys Hammer Throw Championship was captured by New England Champion AJ Guerra of Woodstock Academy. Guerra established a new meet record of 201'4" that was orginally held by Robert Guider of Danbury last year at 199'0". The silver medal was awarded to David Pearson of St. Joseph for his throw of 175'10" while the bronze medal was earned by Christopher Ackell of Brookfield for his throw of 150'05".

In the CIAC Boys 3k Steeplechase, Mike Leduc of Canton finished in a quick 9:29.93, only seconds shy of the 9:25.64 meet record by Everett Hacket of Wm.Hall. Leduc was followed across the line by runner-up John Annelli of Xavier in 9:39.45 while Mike Conway of Wm. Hall placed third at 9:51.59.
