Many of the best state athletes took their place at the top of the podium at the rain-soaked 65th New England Interscholastic Outdoor Track and Field Championship held on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Veterans' Stadium in Willowbrook Park, New Britain Connecticut.
Rachel Aliotta of Cheshire has been the best in the state in the Girls Shot Put all season. She successfully defended her New England title with a personal record throw of 45'0.5" to capture the event.

The Hamden Boys 4x800m Relay team of Nick Saba, Patrick Cyr, Isiah Whiting and Chris FitzSimons blazed to a new meet and State record of 7:40.48. The previous State record of 7:42.25 was held by the Danbury team since 2007.

The Windsor Girls 4x800m Relay team of Medinah Nabadduka, Sydnee Over, Shayna Presley and Nastasya Rodriques completed the event sweep for the state as they finished first in 9:14.69.

In the finals of the Boys 100m Dash, Darrel Wattely of Montville was the slowest qualifier from the preliminary heats but was the first across the line in 11.00.

The Girls 100m Dash final was captured by Teyanna Green of Danbury as she crossed the line in 11.99. Later in the meet, she was also part of the winning Danbury 4x400m Relay team that finished in 3:52.52.

Freshman Precious Holmes of Career-New Haven took home two gold medals from her wins in the 400m Dash (55.48) and the 200m Dash (25.10).

Another freshman, Sarah Gillespie of Northwest Catholic-West Hartford led a 1-2-3-4 sweep in the Girls 800m Run with a time of 2:16.49. She was followed by Emily Campbell of Danbury (2:16.49), Julie Hart of Cheshire (2:16.73) and Alyssa Brandt of Bristol Central (2:16.85).

In the closest finish in the Boys 3200m in recent memory, Chris Bendtsen of Wolcott edged Coby Horowitz of Nashoba NH by a 8:58.16 to 8:58.17 to garner both meet and State records. The former State record of 9:00.20 was set by Adam Vess of Xavier in 2007.

Another state best was recorded by junior Lindsay Crevoiserat of Glastonbury when she finished second in the 3200m Run in 10:29.88 behind winner Abbey Leonardi of Kennebunk Maine in 10:26.48. Crevoiserat lowered her own State record of 10:37.83 set last Monday at the State Open meet.

Under difficult conditions that included a restart after a heavy rain, the Girls Pole Vault featured a 1-2 performance by State Champion Emily Ando of Weston and State record holder Robin Bone of Darien.

In the Boys 4x400m Relay, the Staples squad ran a season best time of 3:19.43 to take home the winner's plaque.

In the Irv Black New England Hammer Throw Championship, State record holder AJ Guerra of Woodstock Academy captured first place with a toss of 208'1".

Other state performers who took the top step on the mdeal's podium on Saturday included:
Matthew Jeune of Notre-Dame in winning the Boys High Jump with a leap of 6'7".
The Windsor Girls 4x100m Relay team finished first in 48.74.
Robert White of New Britain won the 200m Dash in 22.43.
