New England XC Championships Results

During a soggy day over a rain-soaked muddied 5km course at Wickham Park in Manchester CT, the 75th New England Interscholastic Cross Country Championships provided the opportunity for the best competitors from Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont to challenge for team and individual honors.

The Girls Championship Race was won by Emily Durgin of Cheverus High School ME in a time of 18:35. Close behind was Kelsey Smith of Exeter NH in 18:42 followed by Lauren Sara of Bunnell in 18:45. Other state runners earning All New England honors with their top 25 finish included Reid Watson (Glastonbury-6-18:52), Meg Ryan (Fairfield Warde-8-18:57), Rosa Moriello (Naugatuck-9-19:03), Lindsay Crevoiserat (Glastonbury-11-19:10), Jackie Nicholas (Nonnewaug-12-19:14), Annmarie Tuxbury (Northwestern-22-19:44), Danielle Klein (Trumbull-24-19:47) and Katherine Howley (Ridgefield-25-19:48). The team championship was won by La Salle RI with 133 points followed by Barrington RI with 184 points and Manchester Central NH third with 210 points. The top state team was Glastonbury with 229 points followed by Guilford (8th), Wilton (9th), Norwich Free Academy (13th), Fairfield Warde (16th), and Ridgefield (19th).

The Boys Championship Race for individual honors was a duplicate of the CIAC State Open race as John Raneri of New Fairfield led all runners across the finish line in 15:57 with Chris Bendsten of Wolcott following in second place with a time of 16:09. Ten more state runners earned All New England honors including Ryan Laemel (amity-9-16:35), Mike LeDuc (Canton-11-16:38), Luke Perron (Conard-12-16:39), Daniel Francoeur (Conard-13-16:39), Zachary Kraus (New Milford-14-16:40), Mike Conway (WmHall-15-16:40), Connor Stauffer (Joel Barlow-16-16:42), Sean Mueller (Cheshire-21-16:46), Connor Rog (Fairfield Prep-23-16:47) and Beecher Watson (Glastonbury-24-16:48). The competition for the team title was very close as Bishop Hendricken RI scored 105 points to edge runner-up Bishop Guertin NH with 106 points while third place was awarded to Pinlerton Academy NH with 119 points. The Connecticut teams were led by a sixth place by New Milford (245) followed by Hamden (7th), Xavier (8th), Amity (9th), Canton (13th) and Conard (15th).
