at 36th Hartford Public Invitational... The Men's' 1-mile run saw Matt Casey of Branford run to a 4:21.65 to place right behind winner Brendan Hyland of Concord NH (4:19.03) while Will Griffin of East Catholic (4-4:25.03) and Joe Poulsen of Seymour (4:26.31) took home medals as well. In the Women's 1-mile run, Jamie Olson of Glastonbury broke the 5-minute barrier for the first time to take top honors in 4:59.40 as she was followed by Alasia Griebel of Bristol Central (2-5:05.13), Anna Shields of Lewis Mills (3-5:06.90), Stephanie Bohannon of Hall-W.Hartford (4-5:07.71), Courtney Dinnan of Hamden (5-5:08.59) and Kelly Flannigan of Middletown (6-5:09.12). Mike Lorrick of Danbury was the fastest in the Men's 100m Dash finals as he sped to a 10.88 followed by Trevardo Williams of Bridgeport Central (2-11.00), Lorenzo Baker of Middletown (3-11.03), Marcus Campbell of Bloomfield (4-11.06), and Kevin Smith of Lewis Mills (6-11.21). In the finals of the Women's 100m Dash, Shelby Walton finished a close second (12.26) to winner Sheveena Rowe of Samuel Tilden NY (12.18) while Chelsea Jubrey of Rockville (3-12.39) and Christine Jones of Weaver (6-12.74) received medals. The Men's 110m Hurdle final saw Iren Williams of Weaver (14.95) place third behind winner Peter Conti of Mansfield MA (14.80) with Justin Chiaravalle of Danbury finish fifth in 15.28. State leader Lauren Tanz of Brookfield ran a season best time of 14.90 to place third behind winner Gehian Regis of Paul Robeson NY (14.57) with Anita Souza of Bridgeport Central fourth in 15.12 and Julia Saccone of Ledyard fifth in 15.53. In the Men's 400m Dash, Tom Fitzsimons of Hamden ran a personal best to capture first in 48.49 followed by Tyler O'Brien of Rocky Hill in (3-49.14), Shawn Buchanan of Weaver (4-49.80) and Alex Hula of Litchfield (5-49.96). In the Women's 400m Dash, Shaena Gray of Weaver captured third place in 57.88 behind winner Dana Jamieson of Lincoln Sudbury MA (57.35) with Annelies Gamble of Amity in sixth (58.12). In the Men's 400m Intermediate Hurdle race, Andrew Fitzgerald of NW Regional placed third in 56.46 behind winner Stephen Mclean of Transit NY (54.37) followed by Alex Benedito of Shelton (4-57.32), Jordan Defazio of Wethersfield (5-57.59) and David Kurtis of Hall-W.Hartford (6-58.35). Clervine Sanon of Weaver led all finishers to the line in the Women's 400m Intermediate Hurdles in 1:03.91 followed by Katrina Ainsworth of Rockville (3-1:05.27) and Allison Barwise of Amity (5-1:07.51). Josh Perry of Naugatuck took home the winner's watch in the Men's 800m run with a time of 1:56.70 as he bested David Macklem of Tolland (2-157.48), Andrew Esposito of Ledyard (3-1:57.87), Brian Robbins of Bristol Central (4-1:57.96) and Dave Krinjak of Manchester (6-1:58.61). Molly Fresher of Conard W. Hartford was the only state medalist in the talented Women's 800m race as she ran 2:18.32 behind winner Michelle Riley of Saratoga Springs (2:15.37). Dwayne Stewart of Bloomfield and Tyler O'Brien of Rocky Hill placed second and third in a photo finish time of 21.72 in the Men's 200m Dash behind winner Matt Washington of Hope RI (21.59). The Rockville duet of Chelsea Jubrey and Sara Hill placed second and fifth (25.40, 25.67) in the Women's 200m Dash as Anika Niles of Samuel Tilden lead all finishers in 25.16. Whitney Holder of Middletown placed sixth in 25.84. The Men's 2-Mile run saw defending champion Mark Amirault of Xaverian Brothers MA charge to a 8:59.56 victory while Adam Vess of Xavier-Middletown ran a school record and personal best time of 9:06.23 for second place. Other state medalists were Wesley Halstead of Amity (5-9:26.14) and Andrew Judd of Conard-W.Hartford (6-9:26.92). In the Women's 2-Mile run, Hannah Davidson of Saratoga Springs opened an early lead and won in 10:42.37 while state medalists included Emma Perron of Conard-W.Hartford (3-11:05.64), Anna Sheilds of Lewis Mills (5-11:18.43) and Courtney Dinnan of Hamden (6-11:25.78). In the final relay events, Transit Tech NY took top honors in the Men's 4x400m relay in 3:25.65 followed by Hamden (3:26.13), Weaver (3:26.88), Wethersfield (3:28.55), Wilby (3.29.08) and Staples (3:30.06). In the Women's 4x400m relay, the Weaver team of Shaena Gray, Christine Jones, Clervine Sanon and Cassandra Bennett dominated with a very fast 3:53.73 followed by Tolland (3-4:03.44, Glastonbury (5-4:05.36) and Amity (6-4:05.40). The Bloomfield quartet of Dwanye Stewart, Maurice Calenda, Marcus Cooper, and Marcus Campbell returned to claim victory in the Men's 4x200m relay in 1:29.77 while Staples placed sixth in 1:34.75. The Weaver team of Amanda Glass, Catherine Milledge, Crystal Davis and Shanique Castella took top honors in the Women's 4x200m relay with a time of 1:44.52 followed by Danbury (4-1:46.44), Tolland (5-1:49.02) and Bristol Central (6-1:49.53). In the final track event, the 1600m Sprint Medley relay, the Ledyard Men's team place second in 3:38.40 behind winner Methuen MA (3:35.78) followed by East Catholic (3-3:38.40), Wilbur Cross (5-3:41.58) and NW Regional (6-3:42.13). The Women's SMR was won by Samuel Tilden of NY in 4:15.36 as state medalists included Rockville (4:25.58) and Danbury (6-4:25.90). Off the track and in the jump/vault field events, Cherelle Allen of New Britain took top honors in the Women's Long Jump with a 18'5.25 leap followed by Bridget Tavern of Newington (5th) and Lauren Tanz of Brookfield (6th). The Men's Long Jump was close as Mike Hartfield of Manchester jumped 22'2" for second close behind winner Tommie Lark of Amherst Regional MA (22'2.25"). Also placing were Justin Wilson of Windsor (3rd), Andre Lawrence of Hartford Public (4th) and Devin Pinder of Wilby (6th). In the Women's High Jump, Lauren Messen of Dartmouth Canada won in clearing 5'4 while Kristen Johnson of Bloomfield and Allison Barwise of Amity tied for second (5'2") and Kristy Bilodeau of Terryville was 5th. In the Men's High Jump, state leader Nick Frimpong of East Hartford won with a6'6" effort with Mark Harrison of Bunnell (2nd), Rich Haigh of Amity (3rd)), Jacob Drozd (4th) and Victor McKenzie of Manchester (6th). Frimpong scored another victory in the Men's Triple Jump with a hop-skip-leap of 46'2" with Joshua Broaden of Bloomfield (3rd) and Mike Hartfield of Manchester (5th). Cherelle Allen of New Britain finished second in the Women's Triple Jump with a 37'8.75" effort behind winner Camille Quarles of Pinkerton Academy NH (38'2.5") with Brittany Nkoukou of Wethersfield (5th) and Sarah Hansen of Berlin (6th). In the Men's Pole Vault, Pat Wasczsak of Bacon Academy cleared 13'6" for the win followed by Nathan Rossi of Stafford (3rd), Matt Alexander of Windham Tech (4th), Mike Zilm of Hamden (5th) and Cory Calamari of Fitch (6th). In the Women's Pole Vault, state leader Jessica Sullivan was over 10'6" for the victory with Julie Sitver of Weston (2nd), Jill Pizzo of Glastonbury (3rd), Dana Schmitt of Wall-W.Hartford (4th), Valerie Milici of Branford (5th) and Alicia Gray of Bacon Academy (6th). In the field throwing events, state leader Amanda Nappi of Windham took home a first place watch with a toss of 132'2" to win the Women's Javelin Throw. She was followed by Jess Biercevicz of Seymour (2nd), Julia Arduini of Fairfield Warde (3rd), Jen Aldieri of Middletown (4th), Fotini Xendis of Shelton (5th) and Brittany Meyers of Shepaug Valley (6th). Ben Latham of Fitch tossed a season best of 196'4" to win the Men's Javelin Throw followed by Miles Snelgrove of Lyman Memorial (2nd), Jeff Baker of Lyman Hall (3rd), Mike Wilder of Windham Tech (4th), Kevin Maher of EO Smith (5th) and Kevin McDonald of S.Windsor (6th). The Women's Shot Put was won by Becky O'Brien of Greely ME (45'10") with New Britain teammates Athalia Smith and Chantual Smith placing 2-3 followed by Julia Arduini of Fairfield Warde (4th) and Christine Middleton of Bacon Academy (6th). In the Men's Shot Put, Mike Goodfriend of Sheehan tossed a season best of 52'10" to win followed by Greg Manzollilo of Xavier (2nd), Justin McGregor (3rd), John Porto of Lyman Hall(4th), and Rob Psoter of Xavier (6th). Becky O'Brien of Greely ME scored another victory in the Women's Discus Throw with a 132'8" effort while Samantha Schueschner of Brookfield was 4th, Sonya Marzola of Newington (5th) and Julia Arduini of Fairfield Warde (6th). The Men's Discus Throw was won by Greg Manzollilo of Xavier with an effort of 157'5" with Nick Fedor of Amity (2nd), Ryan Oppel of Shelton (4th), Dennis Yousef of Hartford Public (5th) and Mike Goodfriend of Sheehan (6th). In the final throwing events of the meet, Melissa Johnson of Ward Melville NY won the Women's Hammer Throw with a 120'7" toss while Candace Shirley of Bloomfield was 3rd, Adrianne Rupe of NW Regional (4th), Samantha Schueschner of Brookfield (5th) and Alex Barner of Woodstock Academy (6th). The Men's Hammer Throw was won by Ryan Loughney of Tri Valley Central NY with a huge 210'4" throw while Greg Manzollilo of Xavier was 3rd, Stephen Casey of Danbury (5th) and Shane Rodgers of Bunnell (6th).
