58th Great Hartford Cross Country Meet

Stanley Quarter Park, New Britain, CT
September 29, 2007 - 9:30am

Coaches' Race Day Instructions:

Thank you for participating in the 58th Greater Hartford XC Meet at Stanley Park this Saturday. Please review the instructions below so that we both can insure a competitive, memorable, and safe meet for our athletes.
  1. Coaches should pick up their Boys or Girls Varsity Team Packet on Race Day near the Finish Line. Your packet contains Start line box number, assignment list of competitor's numbers, competitor's numbers, course maps and a Varsity Quick Team Scorecard.
  2. Coaches must give each of the assigned numbers to their 7 Varsity runners on the assignment sheet. That number must be worn by that runner in order for correct results to be tabulated for each Varsity race. All finishers will have their assigned number recorded as well as have their tear-off number removed as they exit the finish line chute. IF you need to substitute an unlisted runner for a listed runner, then write their name and school on the tear-off number and we will correct the final results before they are posted online.
  3. To help our finish line officials to verify the Varsity meet results, Varsity Finishers will receive finish place card that coach should collect to record on Quick Team Scorecard. Please return the Quick Team Scorecard to the Officials table where you received your meet packet. It is not mandatory that you return the Quick Team Scorecard but it helps to have as a backup.
  4. In all non-varsity races for Middle School, Freshman and JV, finishers will receive a finish place card that can then be matched to the finish place and final time posted after the race. We also ask that the top 20 runners in each race provide their names and schools to the finish line official in an area designated at the end of the chute. We will publish these finishers in the official results.
  5. For the safety of all runners due to the nature of the course design, each Race Competitor will have 28 minutes (9min/mile) to complete the 5km race. If your athlete cannot complete the course in this time then they should not compete in the race. Athletes who are on the course after the 28 minute period will not be officially timed and asked to step off the course so as to not impeded the next scheduled race.
  6. Check each of your Varsity athletes for the following:
    - Competitor's Race Numbers Pinned to Front of Shirt Only!
    -  DON'T PIN THRU Tear-Off Tab - Tab will be removed by Finish line officials.
    - Shirts must be tucked into shorts.
  7. If your team earns one of the top two team and/or individual winner places in the Varsity Charter or Open race - please stay for the brief awards ceremony after the last race results are posted so that we can take team and individual photographs.

Parking and Team Drop Off:

  • To insure safety of runners at all times, before, during and after races, there is NO Parking in Stanley Quarter Park due to the nature of the race courses that cross several main roads in the park.
  • All teams and spectators are encouraged to use the parking lots on Welty Drive, 1 block East of the intersection of Ella Grasso Blvd and Stanley Street.
  • Team buses are allowed to drop off their teams using the 1-way Stanley Park side road with the entrance from Eddie Glover Blvd and exiting on Stanley Road. This will allow teams to safely arrive in Stanley Park near the start line.

FINAL NOTE: As invited guests of Stanley park, we need to make sure that you take responsibility for your team area - teams must cleanup their own team area after meet.
